Input wanted guys...
I'm running a raceported 3mm seal motor. Well I'm running a Garret 60-1 exducer 2.997 and inducer 2.298. I'm having the turbo rebuilt right now with a 360 thrust bearing as we speak. I have the opportunity to pick up a t72 from a good buddy for pretty cheap. I'm so tempted to try it out on my FD. What do you guys think?

Wow! you're running a 58mm (2.298 in) inducer compressor? I'd definitely recommend upgrading, that is pretty small for an FD. That T-72 is going to be a completely different turbo than what you have now......much larger, more flow, less response. It all depends on what you want from the car. I say try it out, it'll be easy enough to take back off and you can always resell it.

Rich yeah I figured it was kinda small, I'll have to measure it myself to make sure. Its a 60-1 I know that for sure. So that turbo should be able to push 550 hp and still be in its efficiency range. I'm considering picking it up because its a killer deal, I think new they go for what about 1700 new? And it already has the 3" v-band welded on already. Dunno might go with the BBt66 instead. What ya think Rich?

Honestly, for your application I think a dual bb t66 is a better fit (or look into the 500R as well, I love mine so far). The T-72 is just too damn big for a street car in my opinion. |
What is the exhaust side of that 60-1? What's the compressor cover?
What power levels are you shooting for, and at what boost? That T72 is going to suck ass for a street car unless you want pure max horsepower on high boost and don't mind lag. |
Exhaust side is .96 p trim. Compressor is .70 with 4" inlet. Dunno also looking at the bbt67. I was told that with a race ported motor a T72 p trim would put out about 600 rwhp. And on a bbt67 about 550rwhp. I want my 7 to be streetable and be able to run high 10s on the strip. I'm looking for at least 500rwhp at about 18 psi which I figure should put in the 10s? Don't get me wrong I love my 60-1, it planted me in seat. At about 12 psi I could pull on 600 and 750 cc bikes. I appreciate the input guys..!! Thanks..Tony

If you want high 10s, I think you'll need more than that 60-1 (T04S) you have there. That turbo will probably get you around 400 rwhp at around 15 PSI. I love my T04S (60-1 wheel, 4 inch inlet cover, 1.00 A/R divided P trim hot side), but it doesn't sound like the right fit for you.

Streetable and high 10s are too different things. Pick one. You can do high 10s on a your current compressor, just might have to run 21+psi with the rest of your setup on par. A 58mm is MORE than enough on a street car. |
^^^do you really think so? I consider a 35R a very streetable turbo (61mm), but I wouldnt go any smaller than that.

So stick with my current 60-1 or BBT67 or T72p trim? Ok I'll settle for low 11s to make up for street drivability. I currently have 850cc primaries and 1680cc Ford white tops for secondaries. FPR set static at 43 psi. Fuel pump is Rx7.com Generation 2. Was thinking about running a - 8 line to feed and a - 10 line for return. And running the Protek Dual walbro pump setup. Too much fuel?

I think u should go with the best of both worlds. Not the pea shooter 60-1 neither the bazooka T-72. Personal opinion compromise a little and go with BBT-67 !!
U should have a decent size turbo for making a nice 500rwhp and the BB will help u a little with spool. If u would have been in my little island, any tunner will tell put a 74 mm in that car jejeje. |
i honestly dont think a t-72 is horrible. last year i personally ran a turbonetics t-72 q trim with 1.00 a/r i got full boost (17psi) by 4500ish on small street ports. if your into street racing or drag racing i liked it alot. another thing is when i draged the car, through first gear i got about 5psi that helped alot in traction, but soon as i hit second gear it just hit you with everything full 17 psi soon as the clutch was out. i never got boost drop off ever! only thing i didnt like was when i was in fourth gear at 3k and then give it gas it would deffinatly lag, but the only thing i would have to do is down shift and there it was full boost!

also my turbo was not ball bearing!!!

Wow T72 q trim? I figured with the Qtrim there would of been lag for sure. Gonna have to figure it own soon. I want my 7 running soon. Keep the input coming guys, I appreciate it the input so far guys...Thanks....!! Tony
