im terrible at math... need some help...
well im looking for a good turbo for my S4 T2 swap.
ive been looking on ebay(i know ..stop snickering) and i happend apon a couple of kits from ssautochrom (ok ok stop laughing). it is specificly for the FC. they say its a garrett, i dont believe them but here are the numbers. T04 60-1 .62 trim .60 A/R cool .86 "super spool" hot my power needs are 300 hp on 93 pump gas and 350 to 375 on 110 race gas. it will go on a street ported motor, apex seal size is undecided, s4 rotors, 650cc primary--750cc secondary, apexi safc2 and acvr, external wastegate. would this size be sufficiant?? any suggestions??? thanx chris |
also hopeing for good power to come on around 3k to 3200 rpm.
and what kinda psi would i shoot for to get 300 hp on the street and 350hp on the track. |
not a true 60-1
I do not believe it either, and heres why. 60-1 (aka to4b 60-1 or TO4S) uses a .70 compressor cover not a .60 do yourslef a favor most of the vendors are selling a real honest ot goodness 60-1 for about 800. you can find honest to god to4e kits (complete) in used but reasonable shape for about 800 so why waste your cash on something that has been tried and abandoned by several members here. (and I am not refering to the internet genius's that know everything, just the ones that actually tried the ebay turbos....

good to know, still wonderin what a good size for my needs is.
i know there are a bunch of asses on ebay tryin to pass somthin off for wat it isnt. ive been burned befor... n e body else got any input? thanx kenn |
i looked at the garrett site and found the gt2876r. edit.. it says it will support 350hp on the info table. ill do a search, but will these dimensions work for a rotary?
here are the numbers comp trim: 48 comp inducer dia: 52.78 comp exducer: 76 A/R: 0.7 turbine trim/ A\R: 76/0.86 turbine inducer: 53.85 turbine exducer: 46.95 what numbers should i be concerned with and where can i get one of these? the only dealers they listed on the garrett site were in europe, aus, aisa, and south america. |
a 60-1 is a good turbo where many have made 400 at around 16 or less pounds of boost. and as we all know race gas is not required with 16lbs of boost.

Those numbers are for a piston engine. So on a rotary, it'll make about...200-something hp. It's too small, especially the turbine side. In fact, the 13B can probable spool TWO of those things. -Ted |
If you're looking for a setup to put down good power and easy on the wallet, try looking around for a good used kit that someone is selling. You won't be dissapointed.
I think many of us at one point have considered these kits when we first stumbled across them. But after much searching and reading feedback from people who have experienced these found that they are not worth it. Honestly, if you have to have this kit, you can piece together the same kit as they are selling each part individually, and buy a good new and inexpensive turbo to replace the XS-Power turbo for very close to the same amount of money. I think we should make a stickie for all of the SSAutocrome talk. |
As stated above, the turbo itself is no good. And your better of purchasing a used second hand kit.
But if your in a budget you can always got the upgraded hybrid turbo, wich keeps alot of the stock plumbing. the BNR stage 3 is simple installand will make the 300 -340 hp you want. Also the SAFC wont really work well for that power level your looking at. Might want to look into getting a Rtek 2.0 or a full stand alone ( ex. haltech, etc ) |
XS Power/SSAutochrome/Stone Racing is GARBAGE:

yes, i agree, with the info i gather. the ssautocrap is just that. they lie to your face about the turbo.
sticky bout this bullshit ring they call ssautochrome!!!! |
why don't people just go with masterpower for a cheaper and better solution? Talk to bobybeach on this forum. masterpower makes a wide veriaty of turbos including a gt37 witch is about the same thing as a 35r except not BB. The turbos are priced inbetween the xspower/ssautocrap turbos and the expensive turbos. If you can't spring for a masterpower than you obviously don't have money for a single turbo upgrade.

Can you back this up? -Ted |
I'm sure bobybeach can. I'm no turbo expert so maybe I'm way off but from what I've heard through differant people is that it's a close comparison.
this may help http://www.frantik.co.nz/Products/GT37/masterpower.htm :dunno: edit: I think that is bobybeach's website. http://www.frantik.co.nz/turbos.htm (full line of masterpower turbos). |

Or just the spec numbers are the same? -Ted |

Or just the spec numbers are the same? -Ted Masterpower has some specs that are same as Garrett and other that are there own like mpbt range of trims. You know you can’t always use price to directly reflect the quality. HKS vs. Garrett is a good example of that. Some times a product can cost twice as much because of marketing and distribution expense not because of higher production costs. |
any thoughts on the BNR stage 2?
im really excited about the price and the power capability, any idea bout how long the life expectancy is? personal experiences? thanx |
