ideal ignition setup

what do you guys think would be an ideal ignition setup for 550+ whp on an FC? im putting a different engine and bigger turbo on my fc and want something that will be rock solid. so throw some ideas out there. or someone that has something that has worked time and time again. thanks

Hks twin power is easy and works well at that h/p. I have a friend with it on built supra 1400 h/p and still works at 42 lbs boost!

RETed 08-05-07 02:38 AM

Autronic 500R or MoTeC CDI box + any number of aftermarket CDI coils
Combo will light anything you throw at it.
Don't crap in your pants when you see the prices. :)

HKS twin power is all I have(along with new stock coils) and NGK plug wires.

500R or M&W would be my choice I have a 500R on my car.

vest_racing 08-05-07 05:50 PM

I am going to use Autronic 500R and Crane Cams PS 92 coils, but that`s on a high hp PP engine..

hondahater 08-05-07 06:31 PM

I've got two crane hi-6's and two lx92 coils. Not sure how I'm going to hook it up to the x4 ignition box on the microtech lt10s but shouldn't be all that hard.

CMonakar 08-05-07 06:57 PM

M&W or Motec for CDI.

HKS twin power, cant beat it ;)

Anyone have a link for more info. on the 500R?
I may be switching to a Motec ECU over the winter and will need a powerful ignition too.

You should goa full Autronic set up with throttle manifold mapping, PM enzo250 about it ;)

Alex Rodriguez 08-06-07 01:03 AM

alright who has a hks twin power ign for sale here

funklove 08-06-07 02:33 AM

Autronic 500R CDI + 4 crane cams LX92 direct fire with haltech E11V2

jantore 08-06-07 05:16 AM

Autronic 500R with Crane Cams LX92 coils is what i run. But it's also important to get low resistance coil wires and correct plugs. Using B11EGV plugs on my setup with a Autronic SM4 ECU.

And im super happy with this setup. Will use it on my 13B PP T04Z build this winter :)

What about 3 good old trusty MSD 6AL boxes or the MSD DIS 4 Channel, I think i am going to go with the 6AL setup so i can have a better rev limiter than the fuel cut on the Power FC

Alex Rodriguez 08-06-07 08:44 AM

i was thinking of doing the same just slap 3 msd boxes and call it a day

DIS-4 cannot fire a 13B like the stock ignition does...

can someone give me a ballpark figure on the autronic? i guess i must be blind, but i cant seem to find a price anywhere. everybody that sells them just says call for pricing. i know its expensive, but since so many of you guys are saying the autronic, it must be a great unit. do you only need one that will run both leading and trailing?

thanks for all the input, i want more!!

Node 08-06-07 09:39 AM

M&W is the Motec Haltech and Wolf CDI Manufacturer! Motecs just has a pretty sticker on it.

RICE RACING 08-06-07 09:59 AM

Coming from the country where most of this shit is made can say form personal experience and also using Crane Hi6's &7 also seeing jacobs stuff and used MSD 6A's long time ago that nothing compares to the HKS twin power !

It WONT fuck plugs at low rpm as sole CDI's will (plug durability is many times better & very obvious), due to its TWIN circuits (you can read up on it) and its PROOVEN to 700++rwhp at 10.x:1 AFR's on rotaries, does not need any fancy coils either.
This is the ign of choice in japan on virtualy ALL fd's be they drag (9's at 147mph) or circuit (fastest track cars and top speed holders) and they tune stupidly rich to the point of looking like a diesel truck ;)

I got/seen set ups running right now
R500
Crane Hi6's & LX92 coils
HKS twin power
M&W pro 14

and I pick the HKS twin power myself.
If I was going to do 1000rwhp methanol or something else stupid might look into something else?

M&W/Motec or Autronic are roughly ~$900-1000

Comitatus 08-06-07 11:06 AM

With the twin power, I've noticed that it is mostly advertised for FD's. I take it that it can just be wired in with a haltech on an FC w/ the stock coils, and it will be fine?

Or is there something else I'm missing?

dregg100 08-06-07 12:45 PM

i too am wondering this^^^
