Hx-40
 

So right now my engine has stock ports, let's just get that part out of the way. S4 13bt. I'm sick of my ever-lasting uphill battle with my self-destructing T04B Hybrid, so my new plan is to fabricate a new exhaust manifold and install an HX-40. I considered an HX-52, but I doubt it'd do me well on stock ports and an unpinned engine. 300hp is the approximate goal. More is definitely good, but not at the expense of destroying my non-pinned engine. Not looking for crazy amounts of power, but from what I've seen, the HX-40 can do well over 300.

From what I can tell, there are many different options for HX40. Some come internally wastegated, which would be a plus in my opinion since I wouldn't have to buy an external wastegate (keep in mind, I do have a wife and kids :) ) I've already dumped enough money into rebuilding my hybrid over and over and over (and over and over) again, which is why I chose the HX40. I can pick a used one up for a decent price, and at the same time it has potential for more power down the road when I can spend the money on tearing down, rebuilding, and porting the engine.

So what are my options for HX40's? I've done some searching and found some very general information on them, and some very DSM specific info, and the only info I've gathered so far for rotary application is that the exhaust housing should be 19cm².... not so sure how far that's going to get me though. Is there any other information that anyone can offer regarding what I should be looking for? Are there different compressors wheels, compressor A/R's, turbine options, etc?

For 300hp an hx35 would probably be a better choice.

HX40's will do around 410-420whp @ 15 psi so it is a rather large turbo

Yes hx35 is t3. You deff want to stick to hx40 w/ 19cm. This turbo i think you will like, spool wise and power. It comes on fast and hard. I think with stock ports and just the little bit of power your trying to make it will work just fine.

Theres a place here in ohio i think its called washington court, OH. If you look on ebay majority of holsets come from them. Give them a call/ email and they should hook you up w/ a 19cm ect.

Actually, I was looking at one from a seller on Ebay from Maryland. His online store has an even bigger selection of used turbos.

I did find the washington courthouse one though, and I did find the 19cm one he's got for sale. Looks to be in better condition too.

I was at the one in washington, dude the building is probably the size of a grociery store and there stack so high you need a for lift to get to the top.

You can find them with t4's, sort of an hx35/hx40 hybrid iirc.

Also, Bullseye makes housing for them, very popular with dsm's and not very expensive.

I would have thought the HX35/40 hybrid would have been the OTHER way around. You know, with the HX40 compressor end with an HX35 exhaust, much like all the other typical t3/t4 hybrids.

Although I agree that would be a decent and properly-sized turbo, I'd like to stick with the 3" exhaust I currently have. And it's not internally waste-gated. I can still keep it in mind though. Thanks for the link man! I think I've got some good leads and enough info on which one to choose now :)
