How Much Hp Do You Lose When You Use A Resonated Mid-pipe

Going Single And I Dont Want To Get Pulled Over By The Cops, Can Anyone Give Me An Idea Of What To Expect If I Dont Use The Resonated Pipe, I Mean Does It Sound Like A Mustang, Or More Like An Old Ss With A Blower, Or How About A Loud Lawn Mower, I Know That The Rotary Has Its Own Sound, And Please Dont Get On Me About The Caps I Just Realized That I Had Them On So Deal With It Lol Lol Lol

are you going to give some info or is that you native tung lol lol

rotorsownyou7 06-21-05 05:18 PM

What is the question? Are you asking if a resonated midpipe is loud or what?

RotorJoe 06-21-05 06:25 PM

CAPS ON MAY LOOK LIKE THIS. yOU hOW eVER hAD tO tRY pRETTY hARD tO gET tHE pOST tO lOOK lIKE tHAT.

I run a wide open midpipe and yes its loud. It does have sound all it own but if i had to classify it, I would say it sounds like a really really suped up riding mower. I kinda wish I could make sound like a mustang but thats a piston motor.

forgot this

resonated with a dual tips sounds the best...nice low rumble at idle...minimal droning.

mark57 06-21-05 08:15 PM

Hmmm, worried about losing HP before it's had....it's a M/P, resonated M/P, or a cat. Or, a resonated potato...

can some one tell me how much do you loose, i keep hearing that you do and you dont is the RP the same as having a hight flow cat

maxcooper 06-25-05 09:16 PM

Define "the RP". If you mean "resonated (mid)pipe", it should flow better than a high-flow cat.

I think he just wants to know a relative drop in horse power when using a strait through mid pipe compared to a resonated midpipe such as a RX7store resmidpipe I think if I am making the right assumption from what he has there.

If he is talking single, generally a midpipe is used, and he wants to know the loss involved when adding a resmidpipe.

Max did you ever dyno the difference in your new setup? Or at least have a opinion of what you feel it did. As we respect your general attitude and impartial way of looking at questions, you would be the best person I can think of as of late to give a good judgment.

No dyno. My only dynos were with an SR resonated midpipe. Then I switched to the N-Tech high-flow cat. I had to change the boost controller settings a bit, so I think there is a flow difference, though I couldn't tell much difference with my butt-dyno beyond it feeling perhaps a little slower (not much diff). The sound level was about the same, but the midpipe stink was gone (yeah!). Then I had my cat+Magnaflow midpipe fabbed up and it seemed like it lost power. It was also a whole hell of a lot quieter. When I went to change the boost controller settings, it didn't need any adjustment, or at least didn't need to go in the "flows worse" direction. So, I think the sound level plays tricks with my perception of power, and the midpipe probably makes the most power but isn't really all that different from the other setups I tried. My guess is that the difference was less than 30 HP out of 400. I am sure that seems like a lot, but 375 HP that is reasonably quiet (at least 1 notch below ear-splitting) and doesn't stink is more valuable to me than 400 loud, smelly HP for use on the street.

Truer words were never spoken for me. My car doesn’t seem to make the smell but the drone really irritates me at speed. Just got my just got my rx7resmidpipe in the mail and the decibel meter just showed up to test the resmidpipe and RB dueltip catback combo for a second data point to Jesuscookies. Hopefully I will be able to get a actual dyno difference before the busy season hits again. I have always been very interested to see the actual numerical difference without perception clouding judgment on the issue.

Either way I will be sticking with a resmippipe setup whether it be a variant of a magniflow or other readily available muffler
