What are the specs on that unit?

how are you controlling the vanes?

interesting? why does it say too fast on the throttle in the video does that mean you can't punch it at any given time?

351s are great turbos, if you can get the VGT working well that could be interesting, even non-VGT ones are great.

its seems like it will be fun even If I cant get to work the way I want. I will just lock it in place. Just try to find the best spot will be the trick

got piping done just a little clip of spool in neutral. Car is not tuned yet. I did take it for a small drive down the street. Very happy with results so far.

there don't seem to be much compressormaps avbailable, but the ones there are it seems that the sweetspot of these units is around 2bar of boost because of the low trim of the wheel..

also, what wastegate are you using?

Pretty sweet setup. The urge to tinker with these turbos has crossed my mind more than once. Any chance you could get a tach in the vid as well?

Also FWIW, some people over at homemadeturbo.com have taken a shot at rewiring the stock HE351VE electrical controller for an Eclipse they're working on. Its worth taking a look if only to spark more ideas.

Wait...I get like 5 psi of boost or less with turbos when I rev in neutral..

I am already registered to that site. I thought about doing that with mine. The way the turbo is mounted in my car there is no room for the actuator. Too close to strut tower would need new manifold to move it forward. This is just a experiment. I don't think this turbo will survive the rotary heat. I don't want to go to crazy with this setup till I can see if it can take the heat. I did a couple small runs with egt in the 900c range and still holding strong. But that was for only a short run.

I will post any of my finding asap. For now the car is not road worthy will need to wait till spring before it hits the road. I might try to get some dyno time this month. That will be a good test for it.

try to not run it at lambda 1 during cruise, at least that were I usually measure the highest egt on my turbo2.. what effect does running methanol have on egt? you'll need plenty of fuel is you want to run equal lambda with methanol as you'd run with pump gas =)

I think i rememeber reading somewhere that the turbine wheels were Iconel 751, which gets you to about 1600*F (900C) as I recall. Someone please correct me if that is inaccurate.

I'd like to know more about your setup if you dont mind. Are you running a filter to keep the drive pressure from clogging up the line? Are you running an external WG or did you get one of the WG'd housings? Are you running into any of the problems where snapping the throttle shut at higher loads overspins the turbo and if so, how are you fixing that?

as far as I know there are no wastegated housings for the 351ve, on a diesel you can control boost just by moving the vane ring, but I think on a gasoline and especially on a rotary you'll need a gate to prevent boostcreep..

one of the possible issues can be too much boost during cruise because the vane ring isn't meant to be fully closed (as this is meant for engine braking in the original diesel application)

Yea, I was aware of the creep issue with the vanes not flowing enough. Perhaps it was the HX series I was thinking of that had the internal WG

I got a external gate installed. Even with vanes fully open it seem to work well. My quess is full open would be equal to around 1.15 a/r. The vanes will not stay closed when you rev engine up. Exhaust pressure pushes it open quiet easily. The only time it closes is at idle. It make the car extremely quiet at idle which is a good thing. Egt at idle are around 350-400c which is not to bad.

so you use no actuator on the vane ring, just a spring?

Maybe you can use the large dual port actuator found on a fd's seq turbo setup, this way you can hook it up so that the vanes are pulled open when you're running vacuum in the manifold and positive pressure before the throttle plate to minimize the backpressure during cruise.. otherwise the impact on cruise mileage might be bad.. if you would care :p

how the fuck does your turbo boost 12psi on idle. I have this same turbo on my rx7 an mine dont do that lol

lol we tried that turbo on a civic and used a internal wastegate actuator to actuate the vanes so you can use a boost controller to control when the vanes actually open. this requires fabrication of the wastegate actuator and connection of the arm. As for turbo goes when he had the compressor cover off the wheel measured out to 60mm inducer roughly i did not get to measure the exducer but i have a pic of it next to a gt35r and its considerably bigger exducer probably around 94mm so that turbo flows a decent amount of air in it efficiency range. as for the honda we managed to pump out a 11.3 on 12 psi of boost with a h series block.

Using the stock fd crank sensor and dual vr sensor in the ms2. I got a little tuning done seem to drive and work nice. Still need to tweak a few things on the vgt setup. Mine change to a actuator instead of a spring. The car is super quiet at idle with open exhaust.

thats bad ass dude there are only a handful sucessfully running ms with stock fd crank triggers.
