Holset turbo+Greddy tubular manifold?
 

Turbo swap into an 86 GXL. No power steering, AC, airpump, emissions or any of that jazz. I've got room to work with.

Here's the turbocharger I'm working with.

Someone is trying to sell me a Greddy manifold...(which I assume is T4 flanged)

Will these fit on the car together? I'd guess so, as I think the greddy manifold is ready to accomodate larger turbos, but at the same time, the angles look all wrong!

Any reviews on this manifold?

At this point, my options are to purchase this manifold or make my own. I was looking forward to making my own, and planning on a similar design, with longer runners to move the turbo forward farther. Also, the greddy manifold won't fit my TiAL wastegate, i'd have to make an adapter or buy a different gate.

Opinions? Should I get it or make my own and save some money?

That manifold looks like it is going to cock the turbo at a very odd angle. Probably why it's for sale...

That doesnt look like a greedy manifold to me. I have installed a few and have never seen one that looks like that. If the Flange on the turbo is a T4 then it should work.

I'll probably just make my own, I was looking forward to playing around with manifold designs in solidworks anyways :)

Doesn't look like a GReedy to me either and its got the turbo pointed inwards rather than out, weird.

I don't see that manifold being a problem if you clock the turbo correctly... but then again you would really have to mock it up to see the downpipe clearance. Probably not worth the risk of getting stuck with it.

Its either a typo or a play on words due to the expensive nature of greddy products, you've never heard that one?

Just to clarify my reply and agree with arghx here, the manifold could work. It looks beefy enough. My concern would be clearancing the downpipe around the wastegate without a retarded bend. If the manifold slightly cocked the turbo hotside toward the engine instead of away, it would probably work much better. If you do build your own manifold, here's my vote for the design to rip off

This is one of the better ones as wastegate runner design is concerned, with a little tweaking, I think it should flow pretty well.

That is GREAT fab work, but that particular manifold and turbo set up was designed for a very VERY specific RPM and power band. It has a ultra low back pressure (intake and exhaust pressure ratio) and wouldn't spool up too quick. For a road race or even a drag car its perfect, for a street car who sees any kind of weekend racing (especially Auto X), you'd be better off with different design criteria. More specifically smaller runners and fully divided.

I had a friend waterjet me some flanges for free. I'm not too worried about not using them, as they were free, but free is always good. I asked for stainless and 1/2" if possible. Apparently, they're mild steel and 3/8ths. He cut me one for my BOV and the manifold flange. I was planning on using stainless, but for free flanges, I guess I can use mild.

I'm worried about the manifold flange being too thin. Opinions?

i wouldnt use a 3/8th flange personaly.
