Which HKS Wastegate
 

Hello,
I just ordered my XS To4S Turbo and I am wondering at the moment which of the HKS wastegates to go with. I know it would be better to go with the Racing 50mm but I am wondering if it would be alright to go with the Standard 40mm. This is on a stock block 1989-91 13BT. The reason I am asking is the racing unit costs double what the standard does. Is it worth it and do I have to have it.

You need the bigger 50mm wastegate regardless of the port size. The 40mm does not channal away enough exhaust gass=boost creep! If cost is a concern, go with the Deltagate. You get what you pay for???????

look into TiAL, there are a few good threads about which wastegates are better on this forum, search around for them

The general consensus seems to be that HKS and TiAL make the best wastegates for rotaries as they stand up to the heat (where others fail, by sticking). Jason has really good prices on the HKS wastegates at the RX-7 Store, including the HKS Racing wastegate, which seems appropriate for your application:

XS recommends the HKS Racing WG. The standard is adequate but you may run in to problems. The GT is way too big and the flange is different anyways.

I think the prices on that page of the RX7 store may be a little screwed up as the MSRP of the racing wastegate is double that of the standard. Also, everywhere else I look the racing is around $550-$600 and the standard is around $350-$400. Thanks for the comments guys. I think I will just go ahead and use the racing model.

AHAHAH crispeed yes it is for some reason. But it is over kill on the set up he has. Plus he will have to alter the flange and boost a hell of a lot all the time. If his car is a street car it's gonna be rough boosting 1.2 bar all the time. I think that is what spring is in the GT.

Actually I have the HKS GT wastegate, it's adjustable from
.6 to 1.0kg/cm2 for base spring pressure. It is huge !!! 60mm.

I asked about that, but he said that the Racing WG with a 10 psi spring is a lot less than it is with other springs. Something like that anyway. If you want one, just contact the RX-7 Store for details.

prices are the same for the same model of wastegates, regardless of spring rates. Prices go from (cheapest) standard WG to GT WG to Racing WG to Racing WG w/ SS flange which is the most expensive.

Yes, I understand that generally, but if you want an HKS Racing WG with a 10psi spring, you can get one for a very good price at the RX-7 Store.

For some reason, Jason's HKS racing wastegate is a different model number then the HKS website. Jason's is 1405-RA015 while HKS website is 1405-RA019 for 10psi spring model. Strange that I can't find the RA015 anywhere on HKS website.
