HKS GT Ball Bearing Twins?!

Anyone see the new (September) issue of Turbo Magazine? There is an incredible RX-7 as the cover story. Lambo orange paint, RE Amemiya Wide Body (!!!), custom Kinesis wheels. But the thing that really got my attention was the custom HKS 2835r Twin Garrett GT Series turbo system! The same turbos as on the Mk IV Supra kit. SP Engineering custom made the Stainless header for it. Anyone consider using those turbos. It would probably be quite a bit more expensive than a bronze bushing single turbo. But for big HP (lots of air flow) and streetability (quick response b/c of ball bearings) this would be an awesome set-up! Just curious on any opinions or experience with this setup.

I saw it that car is perfection. I have seen a similar setup on FC its pretty bad ass

Those turbo retail for about 2,500 each. Not to metion the stailess maniflod is like a grand also.

:') sounds so beautiful I just want to cry. First off those turbos sound fantaster. And second Metallic Orange (lambo orange) is probably my all around favorite custom car paint colour :-D
Could anyone with that issue please scan a pic and post it perhaps :-)

I am having M2s high flow ball bearing twin turbo kit installed, along with some other things, even as we type. I will let you know how I like it in a few weeks after it gets installed and I get back in town to set it up and drive it a bit.

So is that HKS GT setup designed to run parallel or sequential? I guess that'd depend on the manifold though... ?

Want2race 08-07-01 09:30 AM

someone scan it please... The only storein my area taht had that mag closed down :(

Node 08-07-01 09:49 AM

Greg 08-07-01 11:49 AM

If I were gonna do a twin system I would use the T04es cause they are cheaper :D

Damn that is beautiful, have'nt you noticed that every car from SP engineering always looks really nice for some reason?

I Did'nt see the book yet but does anyone know how much HP is she putting out?

zro_piston 08-08-01 10:05 PM

If anyone wants all the pics and the entire article, just go to www.turbomagazine.com !!

Sharmack 08-09-01 02:18 AM

I agree it looks like the shiz-nit. I have seen similar set-ups in Japanese magazines. Japanese tuners Like FEED and KSP have been doing that for awhile. I actually called SP Engineering and talked with a guy for a bit about that set-up. He told me that they import the Manifold from Japan and they have to modify it a bit for US spec cars. He also let me know that they are still working out a few things here and there and are hoping to release a kit but, it will not come cheap!. I guess if you have money to burn , then its cool but, shit just go single! Its cheaper and I have heard that lag is really not even really too much of a concern at all, even with a non ball bearing turbo, oh and by the way, im pretty positive it is a non-sequential set-up.
Thanks

RX7_RCR 08-09-01 09:06 AM

Yup, noticed that too while I was skimming thru the pages. I was like, WTF?...the turbos are on the RIGHT side now? HaHaHa!

ErnieT 08-11-01 09:05 PM

Bad news guys. Turbo Magazine and SP Engineering recked that car trying to do a drift. The real kicker is the owner is out of the country and doesn't know about it.

OH SH#T!! Would not want to be the one to break the news! That's a real shame! That was probably the only modded(aero kit) FD that I really liked!

lesd 08-12-01 03:58 AM

Here is a pic of some twin turbos for an FD.
