Help me out, which turbo to go with, need some input quick!

Ok, this is what I am looking to go for.

I am looking for a turbo that isn't going to produce a TON of lag... I was running a TD07-08 before I threw a seal through it, now I am looking for a replacement, something that is a bit of an upgrade.

The TD07-08 gave me full boost around 5500RPM and climbed upwards from 15psi after that... when the turbo came online, it was nuts. Here is a list of my mods, and what I will be running so you can get an idea, I've narrowed it down to 3 turbos, and I need your help to give me an idea of the best one for my application.

My Mods:

Large Streetport 3mm Engine
Apexi GT Intercooler
Jacobs Ignition w/MSD2 leadin coils
AVC-R
Power FC
850/1600cc Injectors w/SSX FPR

my last turbo has slightly smaller than a T78... probably about a 5-10% difference in power.

These are the turbos that I've narrowed it down to:
(needs to be T4 flanges, divided is fine, with a vband outlet)

1. AF61r by D-R Motorworks ($840 shipped to my door)
2. Greddy T78 ($500, used and in good working condition)
3. GT35r (roughly $1200-$1400)

I am looking to keep it around 15psi on the street, hoping to produce upwards of 415+ hp. Perhaps 430-450hp with the 15psi on the porting on my engine. Note this is pump gas, I won't run over 15psi without the required fuel.

for 20-22psi I am looking for 500+ hp, using race fuel on the track.

This is what I am thinking:

1.) AF61r is a great pump gas turbo, has great steetability, and has plenty of midrange and highend power. I hear it hits 15psi @ 3800rpm (assuming this is a 3" pipe setup, I am runing 4" so it might be a bit later)

2.) T78 is a great turbo for getting high hp, it's a bit laggier than both the others, but it puts out solid power.

3.) GT35r is a ball bearing turbo, puts out good power, and fast spool times. But I am worried about it lacking in high RPM (6500+) I push the car a bit hard sometimes, usually shift around 74-7800.

Well, right now the AF61r is looking like the best bang for the buck. I've done some research on the forum and I just want some input for my application!

Thanks guys,
-Darren-

Another turbo to consider would be the T4 35R. I put down 436 at 16psi with a large street port.

When I said the 35r, I meant to put 35rT4 =P Has to be a T4 flange. That's not bad at all, thanks for the input.

Go with the GT42R, its not as laggy as everyone says, trust me I know because I have one.

What FP are you running?

With a 4 inch exhaust, Bond on this forum was getting 15 psi right at 3500 on a low compression s4 t2 motor with his af61

Not bad, I think I'm sold on the AF61r, all I hear is good things about it. I'll give Ron a call tomorrow.

Thanks for the help, I'll post the results after I throw'r on =P

Calm down =P Lupe is just promoting Davinci =) I'm sure your car is fast, lets not turn this into another argument... Lupe is known for runnin his mouth a little... hehe. Isn't that right Lupe?

Regardless, everytime I mention the AF61r, people say good things... I've never heard anyone doubt the turbo, or say one bad thing about it. I look forward to throwing it on, and content with the decesion I made =P

Yea, I am not trying to start anything here.

I am sure the Davinci AF61r will be a fine choice. Good luck with it.

As far as my car "not making any power" - My car isn't even tuned yet.......

Shit man, I wouldn't even boost it at all with a turbo like that. My AF61r goes on Friday, and I am driving it 50 miles to irvine with a rich map. I refuse to boost... it'll be grandpa driving for me.

I've driven it :rlaugh:

You're right, your car isn't tuned yet. I wouldn't worry about trying to make power on that high mileage motor. Boom.
