help me get my semi pp turbo to start

So my car is all together, I believe, it cranks but it won't catch. I pulled it and got it to fire and to run on its own for a couple of seconds at a time. My main question is: Can this just be tuning or should I look for something else? I have done all the usual checks for fuel and spark.

As for the map I started with a stock map and added about 30% of fuel and 20 degree of timing. (just focusing on vacum right now). This is on an AEM but really shouldn't make a difference.

Thanks

sounds like tuning...where did you get your estimates off the base map? I know nothing about sPP, but 20 degree advance at idle sounds extreme. What's your fuel pressure?

I just learned the AEM is a thristy thristy ECU.

I took the base map from AEM. i figured a semi bridge should be in the ball park to at least get her started. low rpm vacum my advance is 39 degree. do u know what the crank settings for fuel and spark are for a bridge?

about the AEM you mean it takes a while to set it up and learn?

can't tell you fuel...what size injectors?

no, thristy as in it takes lots of fuel to have it run correctly.

on my haltech map for a half bridge,

the cranking ign advance is 15*
0psi in the 1500rpm map is 32* (idling)
that tappers quickly toward vacuum down to where idle should be is 8* (~10in-hg), anything higher vacuum is 3*

Wooh, you are talking ignition advance. These numbers seem very low. I had some success with crank advance between 25 and 30 degree. Don't know about anything else yet but the car only wants to start with so much fuel that my eyes start tearing. Hope that will get a little better over time.

I kept the 550 primaries and try to use those only up to 0 psi and 4500 rpm. My secondaries are 4 1680s.

have you set you base timing?

z8cw 09-15-05 10:28 AM

I have an FD, so the timing is set automatically. I can check it once the car idles.

dubulup 09-15-05 03:37 PM

oh, I thought you had it idling with your eyes tearing up...

so, what is your base timing with the AEM? For the Haltech #'s above the base was 67*+/- 5*

I'm starting to think the two ECU's map timing differently

z8cw 09-15-05 05:49 PM

base crank set is 10.07* advance, AEM base map vacum is between 22 and 15*, very conservatively. Does the Haltech show the degrees on top of the crank set or total advance? The AEM shows on top of crank. So total would be 32 to 25 advance.

dubulup 09-16-05 08:27 AM

right, Haltech must show total advance, because my high vacuum area is 32

semi pp turbo.....ahahahahahahaha pp turbo lmao..

Marcel Burkett 09-18-05 07:17 AM

I started up my semi pp turbo a little while ago , cranking ignition is 12 deg , injector dc is 6% (550 primaries) , and the idle ignition is 6 deg , hope this helps.

Thanks,
Good to hear. I will try these settings and play from there. She runs after I pull her but I can't get her to start under 1000 rpms. This freaking AEM has so many settings. How did you set your split? What is your base fuel pressure? I don't know youe ECU but does it calculate duty cycle correctly for a rotary? If not sure what is your pulse width at crank?

Thanks
