Help: Lost of boost - torn coupler
1 Attachment(s)
While cruising around and almost back to home I tried to do a last boost (you know what I mean :) On around 5k RPM first gear there was a sudden, loud pshh-like sound and then no boost.
Drove the car home (around half a mile) like this, and upon opening the hood saw a torn coupler shown in the pic. I fear this might have damaged the engine internals too, is it possible? Or maybe turbo might get damaged too? |
You will be all good, just replace the coupler. I have popped off many couplers on many different set ups, it was scary the first time or three from the sound and loss of power, but it's nothing to worry about

Thank you for your reply. Just ordered a new coupler.:)

Would be a good place to do something like this instead:

HAHA yeah you should be fine. FCs with the stock top mount and anything more than stock boost and worn down bead rolls like to pop the whole coupler off.. The pucker factor when it happens is very very high.
It does seem quite sharp where it split maybe try doing something about that. |
IF it happens again- for the next time try either a high quality 4ply coupler from vibrant or weld an aluminum 90 to the compressor housing like dradon03 suggested.
