Help with intercooler
Looking to go front mount on my FC. And cant figure out how small I can keep the intercooler for where I wont to mount. I have an idea of the size having looked through Bell Intercoolers website and checking the CFM rating on a certain size cooler. Im trying to find an intercooler thats no bigger than 18x18 and has endtanks. Also price is a factor.
Im staying away from ebay tanks. There are a couple websites that I have found but Im hoping anyone can help or steer me in the right direction. |

They have the core size but not with the endtanks.

i don't know where you're trying to put it, but if its between the reinforcement and the radiator (under the hood latch), 18x18 is too tall and really narrow.
i have an HKS S type, and its the biggest thing that will fit there, and its 12" tall x 26-27" wide (with end tanks it has about 1/2" of clearance to the frame on each side, same core size as the Greddy, but the end tanks are smaller) x 3" deep. the old school Greddy is 11" tall x 3" deep x ~18" wide the HKS core is about half the weight of the Greddy |
Does that mount directly infront of the radiator with the open ends at the top(not doen like the pic)? I planed on running the pipes and everything as close to the radiator and as short as possible?
The 18'' was also was just for reference. being narrow is fine looking for a square size. Im trying to size the intercooler for the amount of hp I will have. The dimensions based on Bell's intercooler sizing and their CFM rating. approximately. I havent seen anyone mount the intercooler directly infront of the radiator, most due right behind the bumper so my measures are based off that. |

Believe that's what we used. |

I see. Though I'm actually wanting to put the intercooler further back actually. Almost touching the radiator AND having the piping at the top. Basically with the the intercooler "upside-down". I planned on cutting around the top-sides of the radiator mounts.
Ludwig... Thats too big/long for where i want to mount and alil more expensive than I want. |
There's really no way to put the IC that close to the rad without replacing the stock oil cooler with FD-style twin coolers and removing the round cross-beam and reinforcing the frame elsewhere. Placing the multiple heat exchangers as close as possible is effective for airflow, but if one is substantially warmer than the other (Rad vs IC), you can get a lot of radiator when there is no airflow. I had a water-air IC heat exchanger mounted 1/2" from the rad and it would heat soak badly whenever the car was stationary and the fans were off. Putting it in the front bumper helped a lot.

its a lot of cutting just to make the piping 12" shorter, you'd never notice that
