Heat blankets questions
 

So i have been looking online about this stuff for a little while. I was mor or less looking for peoples comments about heat wrap, turbo blankets, ect. I dont have anything wrapped at all and was considering doing a heat blanket for the turbo, and wrapping hte DP and manifold for my fd. Any suggestions, comments, ect.

You know, I've never experienced a heat blanket nor have tested any...but one thing I am fond of is building heat shields.

In theory (<---read it again)...a heat shield will provide some heat blocking close to what a heat blanket can provide, but without the problems, if any, of the heat blanket...ie cracking of manifolds...turbine housings. In theory.

why would a heat blanket crack the housing? or are u referring to wrapping the housing? that might do it

Blankets on the turbine housings are great. Never had one crack, and they will knock underhood temps down by over 100 degs. That is worth it alone.

Ceramic coating your turbine and manifold or wrapping them greatly reduce under hood temps witch is great! not only that but the more heat you can keep inside your turbine housing decreases spool up time as no energy(heat) is lost through the turbine. Some will argue that this reduces the life of a turbo but honestly if this is true do you think it's better to replace a turbo or replace other heat baked things like wiring for your ecu. I think I like the idea of cooler underhood temps as heat is the number one cause of many engine failures on a rotary.

What about ceramic coating with a blanket ? Is it too extreme ?

well I've heard mixed results about that. The reason for the mixed results is some say that the ceramic coating needs to let off the heat and by putting a blanket on it then it will mess up the coating and it will start to crack. Others say it's fine. Personally if I keep my ceramic coated .96 witch I'm really starting to think I won't because i don't think it's big enough for what I'm looking for then I'll sill use the heat blanket with it to just see how it goes.
