gt40r Half Bridge..... reliable ? drivable?
 

I want to slap a single on my FD but am stuck on what setup i want to go with. I want to port the motor. Love the sound of a half bridgeport but just not sure if its releible. How would a Half bridgport 40r drive? would a streetport 35r be more fun on the street? lemme know

Most people are going to tell you that you won't need a bridge to make power. If its mainly street. A, bridge is going to be, more finicky..

Gt35r would defeat the purpose of a bridge, it would have a small powerband. Gt40r with 1.19 housing would do well.

Yea a half bridge with a gt40 or bigger and large AR housing will be a mean street machine....

But if you are after a low noise , low idle, any bridge port will not be comfortable at all. In a daily driver it will get old fast, but a weekend street warrior , you will have fun :)...

You are definitely in the right place to ask that question.

Turblown is also a great shop with allot of bridge port/turbo setups experience and can steer you in the right direction or built you a turn key set up.....

Thank to_slow, it's deff just a weekend car and I want something that's a little different hense the reason for a half bridge. Since there idles higher are they more proned to overheat? I love back road ripping and just want more power but I want it to stand out too BRAPBRAPBRAPBRAP

The noise can be handled to an extent. The idle doesn't have to be stupid high, but it will make weaker vacuum.

I've met my share of dissatisfied half bridge GT40-class owners. After the novelty wears off they get frustrated with the fuel economy, part-throttle driveability issues (due to heavy overlap), and a turbo that can make more power than they will ever use. I wouldn't be concerned about a loss of reliability if everything is done right.

I advise stock or mild street ports unless you really like drag racing or highway pulls. Porting hurts low end and part throttle response (just like aggressive cams on a piston engien) and you can still make your car plenty quick.

Just stick with the stock ports and get a billet turbo in the GT-35r size. Turn the boost up and enjoy it!

The more you port the engine the further right you push your powerband. If you keep the stock ports you can still have big power, the difference is that you've got a wider range of power, and you have more torque for longer.

Honestly, knowing what I do now, I kinda wish I hadn't ported my engine at all.

Water injection, stock ports, and a gt3574 or PT6266 at +25psi would be a MEAN street machine!!!

Just something to think about, and it will probably save you some money in the long run...

I have read a lot of thread on this forum and most say to stay away from the bridge port, if you are going to dd it.

My car has 35k on it, would the stock seals be able to handle a 35r @ 25lbs ?

It depends on who does the tune.

My brand new engine warped Atkins seals when it was "tuned" in the mid-teens by a shop that was recommended on here.

Tuner skill and map quality matters more than seal type IMO, certain seals will take more abuse than others. But all seals will eventually go, the question is what will they take with them...

But yes, to answer your question the seals should hold up. The big question though is if the rest of your setup will be able to support that power. I'd suggest talking to the guys at Speed1 (formerly KDR) and working out a plan with them, they have tons of experience and can do everything in-house, plus they are located in PA as well.

My FD is weekend warrior / go to track days during summer , its a full bridgeport.

Thought it was fun and cool for a while till like people said, the overlap, noise, and driveability sucks for city driving. Also the gas mileage is terrible, but thats to be expected.. also its heatscore as hell, thank god ive never seen a cop when driving it

Wish i got a streetport instead! But then again the bridge pulls hard all the way to redline :) Street port next time for sure though!

I want to bridgeport a 13b but by doing research everyone is recommending streetport for reliability juz up the boost and a tune and it would be fun
