Wow is all I can say. I haven't heard of anyone ever using a 42R on a rotary. How responsive is it?

Thanks for the great pics/comparisons. Is that anti surge housing on the GT40 and 42? So they would sound similar to the T51R KAI then? Also does the 40R have a divided housing? If it does and your using a fully divided manifold I can't wait to see what the response is like on that turbo. Coupled with a 4" full exhaust it should spool up real quick.

SnowmanSteiner 03-20-04 06:25 PM

The fourth pic shows the exhaust inlet on the 42 and it is divided. And there are anti surge housings on the 42 and 40, so it would have the characteristic sound of the KAI but it won't sound exactly like it.

Sean,
Any prices for just the Turbos?

Zero R 03-20-04 07:56 PM

I will have pricing up on the website soon for turbo's only. I will say that I can match pretty much anyones price on any of these.

Just checked out garrets product list and it looks like the GT40 is a divided exhaust inlet. Also in their product catalog they just have the GT40 not a GT40R and all the options are free float. Is there a dual ball bearing version of the GT40 and they just dont list it in the catalog?

Zero R 03-20-04 09:44 PM

GT40R is divided and it is fullBB center, R stands for full BB.

hey sean,

what is the difference between the "R" and the "RS" designation, then? ie the GT28R and the GT28RS?

i want a 42 on my car

SnowmanSteiner 03-21-04 02:36 PM

:withstupi Don't we all? Sean have you put a 42R on any 7's before? And would there be a kit coming out for that, I hope and pray? Finally, if I sent you dimensions on the engine and clearances and what not to the sides of the engine bay, could you design a manifold for the FC, for either the 40 or 42, or do you prefer actually having the car there to work on?

Holly McCrap my pants ...That 42R is insane!

Well, Goldilocks said the middle one is just right. ;)

Icemastr 03-22-04 12:41 AM

Magnus Motorsports already has a kit for the GT42R, I think its priced over $5,000. I am interested in hearing if A-spec will be makign a kit though.

Sean

Thank you for the awesome pics. I wish more people would post detailed pics like this so you could physically SEE differences between turbos without harassing people with the same questions. If you have more turbos that you can compare in the same manner, im sure many others would love to see them.

One suggestion, maybe have a tape measure below the turbos in your pics????

Thanks again for the info!

No kidding the 42 could suck in a small child . I am sold on the 40r but what kind of numbers are you expecting out of that huge snail (42) ? I was looking for 475 rw with the 40r on my 13b with a street port. The 42 is just so massive I wouldnt think it cant spool as fast as the 35/40 or the 40r .Would you consider the 42 a drag only set up ?

Different compressor and turbine housings.

SnowmanSteiner 03-22-04 11:41 AM

Well if you want to spool the 42R quicker go BP or 1/2bp. I think Sean said that the it does spool slower but that it is worth it. I know Jason has posted before saying that a lot of people after going single wish they had gone bigger, and that they don't mind lag.

Jason, look up the thread in this section about surge ring that should explain it for you.

Thanx for the pix Sean. My friend that I work with here just about crapped his pants when he saw the 40R and 42. He's a Suby guy though so he's used to small turbos. :D
