Hey i have a greddy type r wastegate and i wanted to take it apart to see what spring is in it how do i do this..i see there is a long stud with a nut in the middle and then there are a bunch of allen screws around the the body...whats the correct way to take it apart?

i just dont want the thing to fly apart when i take it open and not be able to get it back together

set it upright on a table or whatever you are using for a workspace. use an allen wrench and start loosening up all those little allen head bolts around the main body. remove all but two... leaving one on each side. now apply pressure (alot!) on to the top of the wastegate and start loosening the two bolts that are left. it will start to push up and when you get the last bolt out it's going to jolt up. putting it back together is a bitch, hope your strong :)

or the best way is to get some help, have someone hold the top down while you get a few bolts started.

ok thanx guys...so i dont do anything with the stud and nut in the middle? whats that for..spring tension? and do you guys know what color spring is what psi?

from most of the greddy kits we recieve the Type R wg comes with a yellow spring which is around 10 - 13psi depending on manifold setup etc... you should be able to get it down to 12psi or so.

the bolt in the very top middle is spring tension, i would back it out and then turn it in a couple times to where you just start to feel some tension. then lock the nut down.

you can use a c-clamp but it can damage the housing and honestly that's not the easiest thing to do unless you really do have a very large c-clamp. if you have a buddy to help you it will literally take like 30 seconds. easy stuff :)

Ever tried that with a 24 to 30 psi spring in it! :)
Once you remove the stud for the spring tension you can use a huge vise or C-clamp as mentioned before.
