greddy t78 or t88?
Hey guys im about to buy the greddy turbo kit. Looking tward the t88 a little more just concerned about turbo lag. Aiming for 500+ horsepower on about 20psi. Im running t56 6 speed gto transmission and 4.10 ratio in the back. Would the t88 or t78 be more compatable with my setup?. Thanks in advance!

I understand this thread was started looking into Greddy turbos, but you should really look into the Borg Warner S366. Its a newer technology at a great price. I'm currently using it in my FD with great results, and here is a thread that was started by somebody asking a very similar question.

if you go with a greddy go with the t78..you should hit your goal and be much less laggy
|
i have greddy t78 and love it!! . i think the more durable & reliable and you will have no problem reaching your goal. and if you want more hp just upgrade to billet wheel.
|
i was hoping i would be good with the t88. i can get a hell of a deal on a t88 kit but i guess il be better off with the t78 huh? if i go with the t88 kit does anybody know what i will hit boost at? im running a massive street port.
|
Both are laggy. I have have used the t-78 on two rx7's and wouldnt go with that again if I had the choice.

On a high speed track it wouldn't be much of an issue but for a street car like you said it is, having to rev up that high just to see boost would be unbearable.
|
i have a t88 and i start seeing boost at 3000 on large street ports
|
nice thats what i like to see. im deff hoping on that deal then

Start to see boost at 3k, at what point are you really ripping it full boost?
|
This is 2012, not 1999. Unless you are buying them used for next to nothing look elsewhere. The greddy kits are proven and reliable but laggy and limited with the 78. Get a 67/66 billet or garret billet turbo.

I have a T78 and it spools at 3800 rpm.
When it crapped out, i thought of buying a new Borg Warner SW3366, but wound up rebuilding it since i wasn't interested in retuning. T88 takes longer to spool, but I believe the kit comes with a 4" DP |

Amemiya-san disagrees ;) |
im getting a really good deal on a brand new kit. the guy need the money never ven installed it. i get the entire kit for 1500 still in the box.
|
I'd look into the GT35 range or GTX series turbos if thats the power you want. would be much more efficient and responsive.
I currently have a .7/1.15 T04b on a standard port motor and the fun kicks in at 4500.. still bulk fun as once the powers there it will be through the next gear too though for little squirts you cant do much. |

Gotta hand it to Greddy. They have been making the same turbo kit for close to 15 years. But yeah, for the price new, it is no longer remotely worth it. Turbo technology is in a different playing field these days. Another thing to remember is 500whp can be done with a GT35R, or even T04S. Water injection has realistically changed everything. You are no longer limited to a big laggy turbo and/or race gas. Take a stroll down to the AI section.... |
If you want 500's , T88 34d. T78 is good turbo for 450 or so. This turbo is still a common turbo in Japan for making good power. RE Amemiya wins many races with these turbos.

Depends on how much power you want
|
I bought the greddy turbo kit. Its brand new i got the kit for 1250. I got a 250 discount off the 1500. I cant go wrong at that price
|
Ok i have a good question. What is the difference between the t88 33D and the t88 34d
|
Compressor Inducer<--> Exducer
33D 2.598 // 66.0mm<--> 3.543 // 90.0mm 34D 2.744 // 69.7mm<--> 3.740 // 95.0mm |
