Good Clutch for 400RWHP

Just want to get peoples opinions on which clutch they use and like. I need to get one for the TII trans. I hoe to be making about 400RWHP. I will be occasionally dragging the car and maybe some autoX. Mostly it will be driven on the street.

Thanks

Everyone has their own preference, I like a sprung 6 puck with a light pressure plate(some call it a "Stage 1"), easy on the foot but will grab hard.

On the FC I have been using the ACT 6 puck. I have used both the sprung and unsprung disc. The sprung disc has smoother engagement, just as you would expect. Both of them will start to become noisy after a few thousand miles but the unsprung is worse. Any kind of puck clutch isn't going to last too long--maybe 10-15k at most, but don't be surprised if it is less than 10k.

With an FC be very careful when you choose your pressure plate. The heaviest pressure plate choices tend to be associated with broken pivot balls.

How do you guys feel about a non- pucked clutch like the ACT or centerforce?

I've never tried a non-puck at that power level. And that's only because I didnt't feel like having to put another clutch in should it in fact slip. I have seen perfectly healthy performance clutches slip from a roll before on high horsepower piston engines.

I'm thinking about going for a non puck, non twin disc once this puck clutch wears out (which won't be long honestly).

There was a 20b powered FD forum member that had a ACT pressure plate (not sure which one) with stock disc. Other than the stiffer pedal, he had smooth stock like engagement and made 500rwhp. 6 puck isn't necessary on the street IMHO. I had an ebay stage 3 set-up with sprung 6 puck. After witnessing that 20b I replaced my 6 puck with a stock disc and absolutely love the improved drivability.

Im not at that power level just yet, but after I saw what a 4 puck did to my flywheel and pressure plate I decided to take a shot at a full face.

ACT xtreme pressure plate with SS full face disc is supposedly good for 443 ft/lbs.

This is what Im going to try in my -REW FB. Hope it holds up well :)

Stay away from the Centerforces, absolute garbage. Had a brand new Dual Friction clutch/ACT flywheel and it was slipping at 13 psi on a 35R streetported 13BT. When I pulled it off with less than 500 km on it, they were both completely fucked.

Josh,

You are using a T2 flywheel with a 12A rear cw? If so I would just go for this unit;

Just saying my 12AT makes 380ft.lbs torque at 3950rpm@18psi

zaridar 04-09-11 03:02 PM

i was looking at this one Elliot.. I was thinking it should hold up but wasn's sure... I dont think i will be at that high of a torque level when launching tho....

zaridar 04-09-11 03:13 PM

Elliot yes that is what My setup is going to be... didn't say that earlier...

zaridar 06-07-11 11:38 PM

got that clutch from Elliot.. Installed and ready to do with a cusco lightweight flywheel... Pretty excited about it. Ill report back when its in on how i like it... Im sure it will be good stuff Elliot hasn't let me down yet! :)
