Getting Garrett T04, but which one?
 

I am buying the XS-Engineering Cast Manifold, HKS 50mm Racing Wastegate, and HKS Racing Blow-Off Valve Type II. Now i need to know something. Which of these 3 turbos should I get....

1) Garrett T04S (T4/60-1) W/ .84 A/R Q-Trim

2) Garrett T04S (T4/60-1) W/ .96 A/R Q-Trim

3) Garrett T4/T04R W/
.70, .84, or .96 A/R (O,P,Q Trim)
66.5mm inducer, 72 lbs/min

I know alot about the first 2, but how much power would you expect with Q-Trim.

On the T04R what A/R and trim would you get for best overall spool and power. I know it will have more lag than choice 1 and 2, but if it isn't alot I would like it.

i personally like the q-trim as it offers a little bit more top end but also the advantage of a Ptrim over the Q would be that it spools a few hundred rpm quicker..

garret has also just released a newer version, dont know how bad it would be on a rex then a supra, but the compressor wheel is alot bigger :)

This seems like a good thread to ask this question, what is the differance between the to4r and the to4s???

I have the the t04r .084 I am very happy withit thus far, but can't really say how ideal it is for spool up and and outright grunt as I have a bridgeported motor so characteristics are gonna be quite different to a non bridgeported car.

T04r has a 66.5mm inducer and the T04s has a ~60mm inducer. The TO4r flows more at similar boost levels essentially.

The T04Z is nothing more than a ball bearing T04R. That is how it was explained to me by the HKS rep. So essentially the T04Z would be the way to go. Just as long as you don't mind paying out of your arse to get one!! They are very expensive, but I believe them to be worth it if you are a T04R fan. Just my .02 I hope that it helped some people. Also, I forgot to add that I wouldn't suggest running the T04R or T04Z without at the very least a good sized streetport. Sorry that I had to take up more room with another post for something this short. Laterz.

Thanks for the info. That is the exact thing I am deciding to go with. How does it spool on your bridgeport. I am trying to decide between bridge and street ports. Also what power are you make and what psi are you running. Is it a street driven car or track only?

THE spool on the bridge is great, with the .84 a/r it's that laggy either and with the size of the t04r and a bridge you aren't exactly gonna run out of puff at top end either. So in my opinion this set is ideal for the sreet
I think a 1.15 a/r housing would be a liitle over the top for ideal strret use. Engine has recently finished being run in just done approx 2,000 miles. I have limited boost to .8bar, I took my mate out in it the other day and with just .8bar of boost it pull like its running crazy.
My mechanic advises that my microtech should arriveaday now so then it will go on the rollers to be tuned and will up boost to around 18-20 psi.
It's a street driven car and will be odd track car for 1/4 mile runs etc. If you go for a streetport you will need a pretty aggressive one but you will have better fuel consumption than running with a bridge and will be alot quieter too. I recently sold a car that was tuned and running 330 bhp and the bridge at just .8bar is in a complete different league. I will of course make sure I keep this thread in mind and will post dyno figues etc as soon I have them. I am expecting approx 500bhp at the wheels with no more than 20 psi. Time will tell I guess.

i got a t04s with the .96 ar p trim housing. it reaches positive manifold pressure just as quick as stock, or damn close enough to it, in fact i want to upgrade to the q trim housing and bigger exhaust system, when i get more money. if u put ur foot on the floor around 3000 then it gets going in a hurry. althoguh if ur the picky type that watches the boost guage then u dont need to be going with a bigger turbo in my opinion anyway.
