Garrett now offering Full Ball Bearing CHRA for T3/T4

Read it in a little side product note in Turbo mag. Garrett now offering standard T3/T4 CHRA centers in full ball bearing. Now we'll be able to run the new Garrett GT steel bearings with the older T3/T4 turbines and compressor wheels along with all the turbine and compressor housings. If you need to rebuild your older turbo, now you can just order a ball bearing CHRA and swap over your parts (back plate, compressor wheel, comp housing, turbine shaft, turbine housing) I'm sure you'll need a full VSR balance. I have no idea on pricing or even how to get them (I've been out of the turbo sales/rebuilding loop for a while and havent kept in contact with my vendors). Like I said, I just saw a snippet of it in Turbo mag. I'm sure, they'll only come in water cooled.

Just a side note.

Up until now, the only way to get a Garrett ball bearing center was to buy the newer series GTXXXX "R" turbos. You could have purchased a ceramic ball bearing center from Turbonetics which really is only a single bearing, or buy a full dual ball bearing (ceramic as well) from Innovative Turbo systems (both available in standard T3/T4 frames). OR go the really really expensive route of getting an IHI turbo which are extremely hard to find and even harder is finding flow maps and different A/R turbines (these are mostly found in kitted turbos from say Apexi). Now you can get the Garrett steel ball bearing benefits (quicker spool, less oil use, less energy to keep the turbo spooled etc) with Garrett reliability. I don't work for Garrett, just a fan and at one time sold and rebuilt them. I'm just passing this on to fellow gear heads.

You probably don't have any clue on pricing, but I have this bad feeling it's not going to be cheap!
It's bad enough that some of the Garrett GT-series stuff is Made in Mexico!
Garrett is making a killing on the cheap labor! :(

Did some poking around. ATP offers this but has yet to list prices. CHEAPTURBOS.COM aka Pheonix turbos so far offers this to any turbo build at an additional $499.00. ouch.......

WOW!! Thats a great price (extra $200 for BB upgrade). its just a matter of time b4 price wars/cut throating will make these cheap.
