garret gt dual ball bearing turbos
good bad any thing
|
garrett bb turbos are great! You will just have to replace the bearings ever 10k miles or so in a rx7.

Excellent turbos, the best on the market IMHO.
I have a mate that is running one (GT30/40) on a 13BT, runs 10.7 quarter and has never had a problem. Very quick spool up. Another mate has just bought a GT42 (absolute monster!!) for a 20B... it will be insane. Dont know about this bearing changing business tho... AFAIK they are not able to be rebuilt (as yet), and nobody that i know that runs one has ever had a problem. Highly recommended!!!! |
$$$$$$$$$ How about that? :D
|
the Garrett GT series turbos are one of the best turbos out there...not cheap though....true dual ball bearing design
|
The only problem is getting them from Garrett for something close to being called affordable. I believe they're running about $2K here in the United States. The HKS series (also a Garrett) runs about the same in Japan. You can order them through www.takakaira.com. No, you don't have to replace the bearings every 10K miles. The whole concept behind a dual ball bearing cartridge is increased load-bearing capability and durability.

$2k US!!!!
Geezus... here in Oz they are about $2400 AUS brand new for a Gt30 series. |
Somebody can buy my GT3540 for $1600 USD :D:D:D:D:D:D

Yes but you OZ guys buy from that one vendor (can't remember the name off hand) that offers a "GT-like" turbo, their own version, not an actual GT series Garrett...where they do the dual ball bearing conversion I dont' know but to me it's a bit misleading, no? I want to know exaxtly what I'm getting which I do through Garrett and HKS. You get what you pay for.

We definately have the proper Garrett GT dual ball bearing turbos here in Oz... they are very easy to get hold of and the prices is not too bad either. A stack of people run them and have never ever looked back.

I have the m2 set...gt30 ballbearing twins....Ill let you know how they work out...the only complaint I have heard so far is that they smoke due to the need for a restrictor pill for oil consumption.

The ones from Australia are genuine Garrett GT roller bearing turbos with the dual bearing centre.

A true garret turbo will come with a badge like this on the bearing housing that says Garrett turbo with model name, serial number, and part number. Chuck |
