Full Bridgeport Query

Just a quick query regarding a full Bridgeport setup on a 13b engine.

So I know for a half bridge when using 2piece seals you flip the seals so the assist piece is away from the rotor housing notch just as a precaution. But when you go full bridge and both sides of the housings are notched, does is matter which way 2 piece seals are fitted. I know a solution would be to use a 1 piece seal but if the budget won't stretch for them and I'm using strengthened 2 piece seals is it advisable to put the assist piece towards the intermediate housing end or does it not matter? I will be using 1 piece solid corner seals and my bridges are actually quite wide so no risk of fall through. Any advice greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Don't use the assist piece. Read this: https://www.rx7club.com/1st-gen-gene...ed-any-785220/

i think hes getting assist piece confused with the triangle wedgie part of the apex seal.

A lot of people do, and still do, which is why I made that thread back in '08. :)

You only need to be concerned about apex seal orientation if you have relieved rotor housings.

I've been running Atkins seals with a full bridge for something like 40-50k miles Only secondaries are relieved.

I don't think you can do relieved rotor housings on '86-02 engines anyway, not without cutting the coolant seal out, so probably not an issue anyway.

An aside, I'm convinced that solid corner seals are weaker than standard type. Solids have two corners in them just ready to break, standard are flexible. There's a reason why Mazda stopped using solid corner seals in the 70s.

hehe yeah I was getting them 2 confused after reading the link from Jeff so thanks. So back to the original question. I've cut a relief on the rotor housing for the primary and secondary Bridgeport.....so with regards to the triangle part of the apex seal, should I be concerned with which direction it's installed since there will be a relief cut into the rotor housing both sides only difference of course is the length

If both sides were relieved, I'd go 1 piece apex seals.

Thanks Jeff, guess I'll have to bite the bullet and go with. Would be great to hear from anyone running 2 piece seals and with the housings relieved on both sides, any issues?

You can relieve both bridges if you use certain apex seals like Atkins or Goopy that the small triangle is wider than the stock Mazda seals. You can cut the secondary bridges bigger and cut the relief closer to the coolant seal. But the primary bridge ports will not be as big and you install the front apex seals as normal and flip the rear apex seal so the small end piece is towards the primary ports. Have done this many times works fine as long as your not cutting into the water seal area. If your cutting your bridge ports past the coolant seals then just get 1 piece seals.
