.58 turbine A/R divided......FORGETABOUTIT!!!!

Crusader_9x 10-25-04 06:22 PM

my opinion is way to small and not enough detail on what it is.

FC_mania 10-25-04 06:58 PM

what will happen if i were to use an a/r of 0.58?

i have a stock port s5 engine.

actually i already bought the turbo...... =( so any idea?

Trav 10-26-04 12:15 PM

FC_mania, man that thing is smaller than the one I told you about. With the A/R being that small, it will never flow enough--you'll be way out of the efficiency range of the turbo before you ever get going.

As much as I hate to say it, I would plan on putting it back up on EBay and keep shopping. I've still got that small TO4e if you're interested... :)

Trav i PM'ed u ...

but anyhow i bought the this turbo for cheaps.... so i will see how it goes... =)

Its not hard to change the exhaust side on a turbo.

nyt 10-28-04 01:08 PM

I'm using an HKS cast manifold on my FC (Was meant for an S4). On my s5 block, The compressor housing hit my lower water pump hose (I cut it 1.5") and I'm running it now.

That turbo is TINY though, don't know why you'd upgrade to it.

RacerXtreme7 10-28-04 01:36 PM

Thats a 60-1 HiFi. If its not a P-trim turbine, its all but useless on a rotary if you expect to make medium power (more then 350 at the wheels) and the tiny turbine hosuing is a no go. You can get turbine housings CHEAP on ebay these days, just buy one and switch it out. I wouldn't waste any time on that turbine housing on a rotary AT ALL.

Yea, thats true when you pull the rear housing off to swap it out you need to find out what kind of turbine wheel is in it. It needs to be either a P or Q. If its a O then its to restrictive. If you decide to just replace the housing I'd get a divided housing. If you have a P trim wheel I'd go with a 1.0-1.15 ar. If its a Q trim wheel (probably not) then you could use something like a .84 ar. If its a O trim wheel just put it back on ebay and try to get your money back out of it.

Good Luck,
Stephen

I believe he has the HKS cast manifold (undivided), so wouldn't a collected housing work more efficiently?

SPOautos 10-28-04 04:23 PM

Yea, if he has a undivided manifold then a undivided housing would be better.

FC_mania 10-29-04 03:10 AM

thanks for the feedback all , well i will have to wait till the turbo arrives only i can measure it....

i asked the seller to measure the exducer wheel for me and he said its around 3"....so what kind of trim is that?

whats the negative effect of running a small turbine housing?

i found one .96 undivided turbine housing for sale..... do u think i should jump on it...

again this is a setup for autocross and i want fast spool up before 4k for 10psi.... and i am not pushig more than 300-320whp..

thanks all for your advise...

pls let me know what u think
