Finally together and running well!!
 

After a couple of years and a busy past winter/spring my friends and I got the 7 up and running. Here a little history lesson. November of '07 I was driving around town with a buddy of mine and we went to meet a friend of his who wanted to check out my FD, after we talked a while he wanted to do a few pulls on the highway and my motor popped after that, oh well, let the fun begin. The car sat for a little and I contemplated selling it etc, etc. Once my mind was made up the biuld finally got underway.

First off, we pulled the engine and separated the long block. An apex seal broke but remained in the rotor so no major damage was done. I got in touch with Adam at rx7 specialists in calgary and we began to plan the rebirth. I ordered most of my rebiuld parts from him, for example, new housings, apex seals (which he warrantees for life if you use new housings), rebuild kit etc. I also sent my plates out to him for a nice street port. I got everything back and my friends and I began on the shortblock.

I had originally wanted just to go with the 99 spec turbos, I ordered them, but once I got them I didn't think I would be happy with the end result. My attitude during the whole build was "while you are in there, do it right", so I tried as much as my wallet would allow. I sold the 99's and decided on a single setup, with "Craiger" and "Redshft" saying I was crazy, they now know it was a good idea. I got in touch with Sean at A-spec and we had decided on the pretty new GT3574R turbo. I only plan on going as high as 14lbs so he suggested that one because I would be mainly driving on the road with the occassional track day, although I just came off of my first track day and I had a blast so the ratio is going to be a lot closer than I had originally thought between street and track.

To make a long story short, we got the long block all put together, put in the car and the time came to turn the key for the first time in a long time. Needless to say I was a bit nervous. I turned the key and nothing, I thought, oh no. Turns out, we didn't have them alarm hooked back up yet and we didn't tighten down the battery terminals all the way. Back in the drivers seat I went and turned the key, wow, it fired up almost right away. It idled high but ir ran.

The last few weeks we have been fine tuning it and so far I am very pleased. It is only running on a smalll blue spring (I believe approx. 7 or 8 lbs) but it pulls hard and we will tackle the boost controller later on.

Thanks Jason, your v-mount is keeping temps nice and low.

IMO if you put a bodykit to lower the bottom of the car i usually go with a diffuser. but thats my opinion. SO breakin & tunning next. Drive around for a while to make sure its in good condition

I'm not to sure what you mean about the kit, but the engine is broken in and all tuned for the 11lb set up.

Did you get to tune it for 14lbs yet?

not yet, waiting for a part to show up from a-spec, should have the boost turned up by months end.
