FFE Fuel Step-up kit: No fuel Pressure
 
Just installed this kit, and jumped the fuel pump to prime the system and check for leaks. I've got no leaks, can hear the pump running, and pulled the feel like in the engine to verify flow, but nothing registers on the fuel pressure regulator guage. Nothing. Not a blip.

Amy ideas? The only thing I did was install the feed line to the side of the regulator vs. the bottom, but that shouldn't matter.

I loosened the adjustment screw, and pulled it out... there might be the remnant of fuel, but it didn't spray out or anything.

I believe that regulator is the usual side intake and bottom outlet, you just bypassed the regulator by putting both the inlet and outlet on the sides.

Plug the side back up and put the outlet back to tank on the bottom of the regulator and you should be good.

Sounds like FPR is hooked up a little odd, I run the feed line to the rails and then the rails to the sides of the regulator with the outlet on the bottom of the regulator (to the tank).

I think the FFE kit uses the Fuel Lab mini regulator right on the fuel rail.

I don't know if FFE gives you enough fittings/hose to run both ways, but there are two options.

Parallel system (I prefer) -
Split the fuel line from the pump into two lines one to the back of the primary fuel rail and one to the back of the secondary fuel rail.
Mount side of regulator to (front) outlet of secondary fuel rail.
Plumb primary fuel rail outlet to other side of regulator.
Plumb regulator outlet (bottom of regulator) back to tank.

Serial system -
Plumb the fuel line from the pump into the front of the primary fuel rail.
Plumb the back of the primary rail to the back of the secondary fuel rail.
Mount side of regulator to (front) outlet of secondary fuel rail.
Plug other side of regulator.
Plumb regulator outlet (bottom of regulator) back to the tank.

It's hooked up just like the picture on FFE's web site, except instead of the feed like entering the bottom of the regulator, it enters the side opposite of the side that mounts to the back of the secondary fuel rail.

Are you saying fuel HAS to enter the bottom of the regulator?

Yup, the return line to the tank has to come from the bottom of the fuel regulator.

So wait a minute... would the OE line that would have gone to the OE regulator a feed or a return line?

I left the line from the fuel pulsation dampener off the primary line just where it was, and plumbed the line that went to the OE FPR to the Fuel Lab FPR.

The FFE picture is set-up in serial, except they put the regulator at the back of the 2ndary rail instead of the front so they could re-use the stock fuel line between rails.

Well, I'm pretty sure that the OE line that I hooked to the FPR is a feed, not a return... it puked a ton of fuel when I disconnected it.

So is the real problem that the feed/return always has to go to the bottom?

stock FD serial-
fuel supply from pump into back of primary fuel rail
fuel from front of primary fuel rail into front of 2ndary fuel rail
fuel from back of 2ndary fuel rail into regulator side
fuel from regulator bottom return back to tank

Yes, the return to tank will always be the bottom of the regulator.

Hmm... well, I'm pretty sure I hooked the three lines on the driver site up correctly, and that line that goes to the back of the secondary rail is definitely a feed... when I opened it and ran the pump, it dumped a ton of fuel. Are you sure the circuit doesn't go in the other direction?

These appear to be hooked up correctly? If so, that line to the secondary rail sprays fuel when I activate the pump.

The hard lines one the firewall in order starting from the transmission and ending at the fender go

Vent, return, feed...

I would also suggest running the fuel lines the same way as factory...

Feeding the primary rail then the secondary in series...

Your return line must come off the bottom of the FPR...

If you are feeding from the side of the fpr... if your starting point and ending point of where your fuel needs to go is right beside eachother, then how is your rear primary injector getting any fuel?

I just installed basicly this same kit... as it should be installed, and is working fine... in fact now with my gauge I realize how shitty my walbro 255 is... Can't do over 34psi with full battery power behind it...

I'm going to reinstall the line to the bottom. Its possible that the fuel dump came from the hard line off the FPR, not the rubber line off the firewall, which would indicate that it's a return line... with fuel just rolling through the two side ports on the regulator.

OK, i got the thing replumbed, activated the pump, and saw some pressure on the guage. Unfortunately, the guage also started filling with fuel and leaking from the back of the bezel. WTF?!

It brand new. What a piece of shit... I'm going to ask for a new one, but I'm not sure this thing is robust enough to be containing fuel just above the exhaust. Options for better/more robest ones?

The regulator has to be in the return. Think about it as a restrictor that lets fuel pressure build up in the system in front of it. Your feed line needs to go the primary rail. The side port of the regulator goes directly on the end of the secondary rail in that setup. The return lines needs to go to the bottom port of the regulator. The other side port gets capped and is normally used for a parallel system.

Also be careful using the stock constant tension hose clamps on anything but oem hose. Differences in outside hose diameter can make them leak. I prefer fuel injection clamps if you aren't going with -an lines.

I got it plumbed right, and thanks to a nifty 5/16" barb to -6 AN adapter, it now uses all OEM lines.

That guage thing though is ridiculous. I'm going to replace with one that isn't plastic.

Must've been. It wasn't worth investigating or trying to warranty, I got a metal one from Jegs for like 20 bucks.
