FD Intake Manifold & Throttle

Hello
How much power can I reach with a stock 93`FD intake manifold and throttle body?

IWINULUZ 11-22-10 07:18 AM

i dont think that there are any power limitations on the UPPER intake manifolds and throttle body. i have seen rx7 with factory UIM & thorttle body with almost 800hp 13b-rew

scirotor 11-23-10 12:28 AM

ok, thats what i want to know...
thanks...

scirotor 11-23-10 03:27 AM

but what is with the lower intake manifold?

scirotor 11-23-10 08:22 AM

ok, i must specify my question...
how much power are you guys running with the stock lower intake manifold?
Or is necessary to buy such expensive one like these?

I'll be selling my ground zero low manifold this week.

It will support more power than you will make, however its far from ideal. The runners are unequal in length, kinked, and too narrow. Your engine and supporting components are working harder than they need to. You can make 800 hp on it without question, but you can make the same power with a manifold designed for your goals, at less pressure, lower temps...etc.

It all depends on the setup.

What are you looking to do with your car, street, drag, road race?

Can you email or pm me details and pics of the LIM?

it will be a pure drag car, nothing else.
its a agressive streetported 13B turbo engine with E85 for the first start and the first runs. I think 500 - 600rwhp should be fine for that.

later, i will go on a semi pp 13B turbo with the 4 barrel intake manifold.... but for that, the car itself need to be tuned to drive straight and also the suspension need to be tuned to handle this power.

you can see my project on my little homepage

I would just go straight for the 4 barrel intake set up. just my 2 cents. good luck with the project

13B-RX3 11-28-10 06:36 PM

Very nice project! I agree, you should go with the 4 barrel setup now that way you don't have to redo the charge piping again when you swap. Your chassis is good for 7.5ET, you are going to need it eventually :icon_tup:

scirotor 11-29-10 02:56 AM

thanks at all...

yes the chassis is good for 7.50 but our tracks in germany are not as good as they where in other countries.
the only track, that is very well prepared is hockenheim (Nitrolymp`X), and there are only 2 dragraces in one year...
so i have to visit other good dragstrips in europe like Santa Pod (GB), Bechyne (CZ), Drachten (NL), Vandel (DK) or Mantorp Park in sweden.
We will see what happend there in the future...
Rollout is planed in 2012... There are a lot of things to do...

For that caliber of car why are you planning on a side port engine at all?

It is clear as hell you know some good people looking at the parts you have already fabricated.

I swear to god.

#1 Buy some pre-made turbo specific peripheral ports with brand new FD3S housings by someone in Australia.

#2 The intake will then just be wrap around tubes across the engine.

What turbo are you planning on using?

#3 Skip the E85, its a drag car (I run my daily on E85). Methanol is cheap and provides better in chamber cooling. This allows you to skip the intercooler.

As I wrote before, when the car is running, suspension is tuned well and it drives straight, then i will go on semi PP turbo methanol.

But first, i think its not necessary to have lots of power... the car itself needs also a lot of attention.

Turbocharger for Startup is a BW S400... Later i will go on a Billet Race Series CompTurbo

You're doing it wrong asking about a stock intake manifold and talking about semi peripheral ports later. To reduce power you reduce boost. Why do you think turbo era F1 had FIA supplied 4bar and 2.5 bar pop off valves.

Why did Honda-McClaren kick ass? Flexibility in Cams! You want peak power later, port it right to start with. Xtremerotaries publish their suggested port timings for NA and turbo PP motors. Racing beat numbers are out there.

By the time you fabricate or buy a dicky manifold the full PP will be cheaper and have more potential.

I think you dont understand what i mean... (my english is not sooo good)
I have a fresh ported-new assembled-race-ready agressiv streetported turbo engine already here, and wanted to know, how much power the LIM can handle... this question was answered...
now we are talking about the specs of my project.
and i want to start with this engine, because its here in my garage... when the car is driving and i need more power, i will go on a semi-PP-turbo-meth engine.
If i do like you said, my rollout is maybe at 2013 or 2014, because there are a lot of things to do... the car itself needs alot of attention and there is no money left for another high-performance engine...

I look forward to seeing my engine push that monster. I should be in the area next summer. I'll come out to see you. By the way le me know when its time for the intake manifold for that semi peripheral port. I can help build you one when its time.

Viel Glück.

thanks Army,

I will see to make the first tests next year... your engine will kick that cars ass...
Then, when its time for the new engine, I will let you know...
