exhaust manifold glowing red at idle
hey guys i have a series 6 with a t04b,
kicked the car over today and within 2 mins of idle the exhaust manifold was glowing red? i have a turbo beanie on it at the moment any ideas? cheers |
my exhaust manifold will glow red for like 5 minutes at idle if i just came back from hammering... its normal.
|
hey,
but this was when i kicked it over from cold only 1 min to go red |
do you have a cat? it could very possibly be clogged if you do.
|
yeah do have a cat right down under the center of the car
|
Sounds like your ignition timing is a little retarted. What kind of ECU are you running?
|
id say your running to much retard on your ignition also.
|
running a plug in microtech..
what should the timing be at idle? |
take the cat off and see if it still does it. i cant imagine that retarded ignition could make the whole hotside glow 1 minute after starting it cold...
|
That's nothing...I had my stock HT18 S4 turbo glowing once...
*edit: to come to thinkg about almost every other time it was driven haha. |
did not want to start a new thread, basicly the same question.
the manifold is glowing only the rear (rotor 2), Idon't have the downpipe connected yet or the intercooler pipes, so can it be just the base map that i loaded in the ecu? or what else can make it glow? it glows at idle in like a minute. does not overheats, nothing seem out of place |
Individual coils on the car? Sure the red hot rotor has a L ignition ?
Edit, just read your signature.. I would put a timing light on each spark plug first.. |
got a similar problem just started on my FD....rear section of the manifold is glowing...only at idle...single turbo...pfc...550 prim...1600 sec....t4 turbo...not cat....255 walboro....aeromotive fpr....9's all the way around for plugs...any help is much appreciated

leading coil issue
+1 for double checking your leading coils/plugs. I had a leading coil go bad and it only took a few minutes to cherry my turbo running on the trailing coils. It's not the same as a light glow after beating on it, my was red like a fire truck (in daylight) and melted anything within a foot of the turbo. It sucks because you cannot cool it down by idling so you have nasty thermal shock to your system.

check you tps possition is you idle
|
i d had the same probl and i moved alittle the tps
|
and got fix
