Everyone with T-78 please answerT-78 + Lag + Shifting rpms
How does the T-78 compare to the twin as far as lag?When do you have 15psi by 4000rpms or higher?Have you ever run 20psi and what rpms does it make that? What do you shift at,I shift about 8000rpms now could you shift a 9000rpms or higher? :eek: Thanks

Did you guys bolt on the T-78 and blow it up right away?Is that why there is no feed back?Help me out here whats it like?

Originally posted by gmonsen sorry about the "lag" time on my response. first, i think i make about 15 psi at around 3500 rpm. i think i hit 20 psi before 4000 rpm. when people talk about lag with the T78 (and there have been discussions on this forever...) its kind of inappropriate. sure, if you start at 1000 rpm and floor it, there's some lag before you hit around 3000 rpm. very few of us drive running the motor below 3000 rpm though. the T78 programmed right makes very strong power from 4000-8000 rpm and continues to make a lot of power to 9000 rpm or more depending on porting. the power band shifts (and may be wider) compared to the twin turbo setup. also, when the single turbo is on-boost, the rate of acceleration is very much faster han when you are on boost in the twin. in the lower gears, youhave trouble shifting fast enough. over the past two and a half years with my T78 i have discussed this whole lag thing a thousand times. the best way to understand it is to drive one and see for yourself. i don't know anyone with a T78 or other good big single that would ever go back. however, to get a big single running right can take some time. i have spent a lot of time mapping my engine to run smoothly and idle smoothly and seem like a factory built high hp car. but, you can get the big power quickly. -gordon How long is the spool time when driving. If your cruising down the interstate at say 3K and mash it to the floor how long (time wise) and how many rpms does it take to get to high boost. The stock turbos seem to spool to full boost almost instant, its almost like having torque. I would expect a T-78 to not spool that fast but how long does it take. Thanks, |
