emissions friendly single turbo?
 

I posted this question on 3rd gen section too.moving back to pa soon,i just found out about emissions testing,no visual.has anyone really passed this?i need to know this.if not possible,i will have to consider a zo6 or supra for my next sports car.and no,i dont want a ls1 fd.

yeah it possible to pass a single turbo rx7...I heard all you need is a corvette electric air pump, a good cat, and add denatured alcohol to the gas to help lower emissions.

I have the A-Spec GT35R kit.
My stock air pump is modified to still work in a near stock position and it's air output goes directly into a pipe for the cat (testing only) or into my MP (normal driving).
For testing I run B8EGV plugs gapped at .035" with a special PFC testing map that has been leaned out for the areas tested on the emissions dyno.
I use to run about 10-15% ethanol unitl our city mandated 10% gasohol.
Have passed each year.

I've passed with the C4 electric pump and a ceramic cat...

If you drive under 5k miles per year, you can get a PA emissions exemption and skip all testing. And there's no extra charge.

yes the www.a-spec.com turbo kit will allow you to run the airpump for emissions purposes

With some modification! ;) The HKS kits and newer A'pexi kits do this as well.

Just to clarify, this is without the acv and egr with all the solenoids associated with it?

I have the 35R/500R and yes with "modification" you can get the air pump to fit. I had two relocation brackets made for me. One a copy of Cewr1rx71 that cost me $1000.00 and an adjustable mulitple peice bracket that costs $100 (click link on sig below for info). I have my EGR (95's don't use EGR) and air pipe blocked off but according to the FSM the other passage goes through the intake manifold (and the third is a vent to atmosphere release or airbox). I will be adding a high flow cat and Borla XR1 for noise reduction and will post results when possible.

HKS comes with an air pump and battery relocation brackets but sells for about $6k.

Apexi sells for about $6k also but I have no idea how they retain the air pump.

Isn't there an A-spec kit made nifoldto retain the air pump and similar components?

I just looked at the REW engine sitting in my garage I don't see why it would be so hard or costly to make a manifold that would allow the air injection system to be maintained.

It's a very tight fit between the intake manifold and the frame. Even if the short runner A-Spec manifold and turbo go back 1/4" to clear the air pump ear you still would have a fitment issue with the filter. You would have to use one of those screens on drag turbos which would only filter large objects, not suitable for street. I have a relocation bracket kit to retain the air pump for GT35R and 500R A-Spec short runner manifold turbo kits. HKS comes with an air pump relocation bracket on their T04Z kit. Apexi RX6 retains the air pump but I don't know how they do it (smaller turbo, manifold, relocation kit). These are all comparable street turbos as far as being BB, similar HP, price within $2k and retaining the air pump. I can not tell you if Apexi and HKS are simple bolt in kits with slight or no modification. Hopefully the guys that own them can reply.
