Anybody have one for their single turbo?

Can you post the pic of the pump you bought off ebay? I've been planning my install and have everything needed but the LT1/LS1 air pump. Install should not be an issue with most of the stock turbo system gone.

Are there any other good threads with info on electric air pumps on RX-7s? I've heard talk, but never seen someone doing the switch to electric, or actually using one.

A while back, RP had a 400RWHP FD with a special oversize Bonez cat, and air injection into vatrious places in the exhaust system. It used a Corvette electric air pump.

It passed the Texas dyno emissions test.

i saw a vette/lt1 airpump and brakcet on ebay for like $10
would be worht the effort to try it.

This is almost exactly what I want but 417 RWHP :D and passing the Korean dyno emissions test.

I believe all LT1 engines had the electric air pump. I got mine used on ebay for $45.

I have to pass emissions in maybe a week. After that I think I'm gonna yank off my air pump. But maybe not.
I grew a severe hatred for it while trying to tighten the airpump belt. Had to take off my airbox, intake snorkel, and the tube going to my TB just to get a good grip to move it 1/2". That bastage!

I was going to go with the electric airpump but after finding out that it can't run continuously I decided it would be easier to make the stock airpump fit. With some cutting and welding I got it to fit with the XS T04E turbo.

I have the electric airpump if anyone wants it....

Why would you want to run it continuously? I thought it was only useful for warming up the cat during start up

I have used a 97 corvette air pump in my single turbo to get it past emissions... worked like a charm... only problem is that you probably should not run it for more than 5 minutes at a time. It gets VERY hot and I'm sure it would die a quick death if you left it running all the time.

And don't ask how I mounted it. Because I only need to pass a dyno roller test, I just shoved it in a corner of the engine bay wedged between some parts and ran a hose to the main cat. Hook up 12 Volts with a switch and turn it on when I need it for the test.

When does Chevy have the air pump turned on? Couldnt you just have it cycle on and off at certain times so your cat wouldnt die? Or for the cat to work do you ALWAYS have to have your airpump on? I know if i got a 60-1 turbo i could no longer use the stock airpump on my T2. The electric airpump seems like a good idea, just wondering if it would work as an everyday thing (instead of just for smog).

I think you only need the airpump for the cat on startup i believe. To warm the cat up faster.
They may use it when idling, but im not sure. no idea.

the mazda rotaries use the airpump to inject air into the exhaust ports between idle and about 3000rpms. air is injected into the cat during cruise. the rest of the time the airpump is off, or its output is dumped back to the air cleaner, or just to the outside.

the chevy only uses the air pump at idle during warm up, as far as i know, so its not used continueously like the rotary pump is.

The mazda airpump can also direct air into the exhaust port/manifold area.

Even though the pump doesn't run literally continuously while the car is running, it can run continuously for a long time if you're taking a long drive. Since I wanted to save the cats and also try to keep some level of emissions compliance, modifying the stock airpump to fit with the single turbo worked out to be easier.

Chuck, you'd have to wait a bit, but the RX8 also uses an electrical air pump. Just an idea as I'm sure it's useage is more closely tailored to the needs of a rotary. Go figure! Not sure how soon you'd be able to get a hold of one as cars aren't showing up here until the end of April.
