EIX plugs will not fit!

Ok so with all the plug talk lately I have decided to do my own little experiment with different types of plugs people are talking about. I started with (and have been using for a while) the stock platinum 9s all around. Hot starts are good and the idle is excellent, good power all through the rpm range. Now im switching to 10s cause i need a little colder plug and the stock ngks only lasted 2000 miles!!!! So i picked the cheapest option first and went with the ngk iridium br10eix. Went to put them in today and its a no go. I know you have to mill a socket down and i have one but there is no way in hell i can even get the milled socket on there. It might have a mm between the plug hex and the housing. Did i get the wrong eix's or what? The number on the box is BR10EIX 6957.

That's the plug everyone uses, and yes the milled socket will work.

hmm maybe i didnt get the socket thin enough, after reading a little bit think i might skip these eix and try the egv. They seem to be a better plug for the money.

I had bad luck with the EIX. The porcelain cracked from the exhaust temps. Milling the socket down is tricky, it can crack if you mill it to too thin.

^your post in another thread saying the same thing is what convinced me. Gonna head over to the local motorcycle shop and pick up some egvs. Funny when i used to race motorcross i used these same plugs and had tons of them laying around and then i quit and threw em away.

The egv's need a thin socket also. I just milled it until it worked. Also you might notice some sockets have a slopped section inside before the flat hex parts start, I completely milled it off until the flat parts were on the end.

^yeah just did the same thing, gonna try out both sets tomm. Ill check back in to share my results with each plug.

Sup guys, wanted to check back in and share my results. Just put the B10EGV's in and WOW!!! These plugs are truly amazing compared to the stock 9s. The idle has dramatically smoothed out and the low-mid range power it noticeably better. Before when i let of the gas the car would always shutter as if i hit the gas really quick right when i let off. Up top is really where this plug shines though.

Can speak much on the longevity of these just quite yet as I have only put about 50 miles on them. All in all, for the money at least, the EGV's are a really great plug so far. For those who have never seen how these plugs fit into the housing from the inside here is a pic.

As you can see the EGV doesn't thread all the way down and i have seen discussion about carbon build up here and that it may potentially hold excess heat near the plug causing pre-ignition but time will tell i suppose.

good thread

I just bought the eix plugs... I havent tried to put mine in yet, but why dont they fit?? sorry for my noob status with this... I see the difference in the plug, but its not computing lol

catch-22 03-24-11 02:32 PM

Its shorter so the hex sits down in the recessed spark plug hole in the housing. Best I can explain it, but you'll see when you put them in.

the end of the plug looks close to stock the pic is blurry for comparison

catch-22 03-26-11 07:00 PM

Pic is blurry but its shorter. Stock reach is 21.5mm, these are 19mm.
