ECU for auto tranny?
Do they make Haltech or PFC for automatic tranny rx7's (93)?? was wondering if they do cause i want to upgrade fuel system and upgrade to single turbo!!
|
I was in the same spot as you are a year ago. Sold my auto and bought a manual. All of the upgrade paths were dead ends and a manual conversion was a bit much for me to take on at the time.
There are people who have done upgrades to auto's but if you are looking to go anything over 350RWHP I think the auto trans cant take it. Check out www.iluvmyrx7.com - he did a haltech/stock ecu parallel installation I think and kept the hold button features working. Shawn |
sounds good looks like i'll have to buy a stick tranny, thanks for the info now i have a good idea on what i have to do!!

there is nothing stopping you from doing a piggy back with any of the aftermarket ECU's ie microtech, haltech etc,
just leave the stock ecu in there to control the tranny, dash etc and use the aftermarket to control the fuel and ignation, simple setup have done a few of these on late model cars and they work fine., Dale |
PFC will work with the auto 95%

Really, well this will save me alot of money, so your saying I can just buy the PFC and piggy back my current ECU, and it will work?
BTW how does piggy back work, connection wise?? Thanks - Jim |
The PFC is plug and play. You take your old ecu out and the PFC plugs in. There are two harnesses going to the ECU in an auto. The big one is the main harness and the small one is from the tranny ecu. There is no plug in for the tranny ecu on the PFC so the tranny ecu is "stranded". The transmission will function "stranded". You will lose the hold function. The hold light will flash continuously. Shifts will be less smooth. If you make anywhere close to say 275 to the wheels, the tranny will likely fail. Piggybacked means leaving the stock ECU in place with the tranny ecu connected, then using a seperate ECU to control fuel and ignition. If you use a PFC, I think it would be too much of a hassle to repeat all the wires that both need to function. If you want to use a piggyback, get a piggyback computer. PFS PMS (EFI) or greddy emanage. The discussion gets complicated from here. I suggest you do a search as we have discussed this many many times. Also try here: ATFD-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

the transmission won't hold a single turbo's power, will it?
|
I seriously doubt it. Mine failed with only an intake, DP, hi flow cat, cat back and PFC with base map.
|
So your saying I should just buy a manual transmission and switch the the PFC? I am not going to tune it myself so I am not going to buy the commander. (cookies auto saved dads name, this is risndeath)
