What dual stage MBC options are out there..
 

The only ones I'm aware of on the market are the Turbosmart; Dual Stage Boost Controller Blue
and various knock-offs of dubious origin and quality.

Any other options?

Im thinking of switching form EBC to MBC for ease of use and the ability to switch on the fly without having to press and hold a tiny plastic button and hope for the best.

Ideally id like dual stage plus no boost controller, in that i can run it straight off the 7lb wastegates for wet weather, say 10-12psi for most conditions, and the full 16psi or whatever for when the tyres are warmed up.

You could always wire it up to a switch so you did not have to hold a button.

True,,, then it is either on or off.
The other thing about MBC is a softer boost response curve compared to EBC without actually losing much response.
I think ill just get the turbosmart - a few clicks and its dialled in. No naffing around with gain and duty cycle in a hit and miss fashion while trying not to kill yourself and on coming traffic!
Might see if i can chuck an extra solenoid and switch in there to bypass the whole thing so as to run it off the wastegate springs in slippery conditions too..

boost control is why many still use the manual boost controllers

Yes, I have thought of doing the same using the industrial modular style pneumatic valves and my two Hallman Pro RX MBCs that I love so much.

These modular pneumatic valves are slim and consist of 3 parts (manifold, valve body, solenoid).

Boost reference hose from turbo to manifold connecting all 3 valves.
1st valve Normanlly Open and straight to WG actuator (so safety default is WG spring boost).
2nd valve Normally Closed to MBC with low boost setting.
3rd valve Normally Closed to MBC with high boost setting.

Electrical logic.
No power to any solenoid= WG spring boost.
Power to 1st and 2nd solenoid (see note- actually power to all solenoids )= low boost setting.
Power to 1st and 3rd solenoid= high boost setting.

(Note: power to 1st solenoid only will cause overboost from no boost reference to WG acuator, so solder jumper 1st solenoid coil directly to 3rd solenoid coil so they always work together .)

Im thinking i might use the turbosmart Dualstage, plus an extra "missile switch" and either the solenoid that came with the EFR turbo or the one that is on my EBC, in a normally open fashion. Would this work?

Im using the NLR 500 v1 and it works great for my needs. I am able to run wastegate and then 2 other settings. It holds boost very well and the newer version comes with updated solenoids installed in a manifold.

The only flaw imo is when the switch is turned on to either of the stages, the solenoids click constantly. Kinda annoying when the car is off.

Interesting set up.. So is this an EBC that you can actually just set a target boost pressure in and ramp-rate?

What's with the pressure sensor in this pic? Is that what they use for MAP or is it something else?

That is the sensor to tell the controller what pressure is at the top of the gate.

the v2 is a better unit than the v1 but it was out of my budget. However the v1 does everything I need and has a very similar solenoid setup.

My Blitz EBC has the option which I got of using twin solenoids for better boost control, plus it also has boost feedback to keep boost
linear as much as possible. The newer model is not as good as the original which I have.
I adjusted the gain as high as possible until it started to affect the target boost setting.

The result is better then the old manual system previously used by me.
