Which differential/rear mod/ratio for 500 whp? RX7/RX8 Swap?

I went to track 2 weeks ago and left the stock differential in the ground before th lights ;) !. I knew it could happen and was just waiting for it to mod the entire rear end. Searching through here and based in several people experiences, the Turbo II LSD with 300mm drive shafts seems to be a good option and has work great for a lot of people. I'm been wondering about which rear end ratio? and the trap speed differences that could be expected with a 4.30 and a 500+ whp set up...

Also...Has anyone tried the Rx8 swap (4.11 to 4.44)?

thx!

I completely destroyed my stock differential a few months ago. I examined my options and a turbo II diff was the way to go. I dosen't have any noise and it was easy to change, but it did take a while to do. Trust me when I say that it has taken some MAJOR abuse. I would recommende changing the rear diff bushings to while they are out. It is a difference of night and day if they are worn out, plus it eliminates a lot of wheel hop. I did it all for about $700.

I'm using a 8.8 mustang solid axle rear end w/ track loc, FMS 4.31 gears, moser race 31 spline axles, moser c-clip eliminators and a custom 4 link suspension made with afco aluminum tubing and solid heim joints.

Mine is indestructible.

Anyone using a kaaz?

...it really sounds like :)

i might try it later.... have always like to upgrade gradually....will try the TII/300mm combo first and when she hits the 10s and broke it then she will deserve something like that !! about how much you spent?

do you/anyone think the 4.30 really worth? I used to work with Stangs and a really difference would be 3.27 to 4.10 ...don't know about FDs///

Anyone tried the 8's swap?> thx!

I've around I've got around $600 in my rear end swap. 4.30 is what you'll want to go with. I tried a 3.73 gear and my car was a pig until I put the 4.30's in.

Cheaper than you'd think....Ron is a hell of a Fabricator and his prices are friggin awesome....i've got a little suprise Ron helped me out with for the next Steve Kan Tuning session.

Swolbynos 04-03-06 09:33 PM

hell, depending on the price, i may go this route...

PDViper77 04-03-06 10:45 PM

I am also going with the 8.8" Ford rear end setup with 31 spline axles as well. Should be better than the pricey Kazz.

LUPE 04-03-06 11:20 PM

Ron will do a complete build 8.8 with a custom 4 link suspension for $1,500 installed.

You can get all kinds of different styles of bushings. It all depends on what you want and the application. I got a slightly better than stock set for $160. The bushings are what caused my wheel hop and ultimatley me diff failure. I don't think that I would go with stock parts though. It just depends on what you need. My friend has a Kaaz in his car. It takes the same amount of abuse but is really noisy. The Turbo II diff is a 410 clutch style and is noticibly beefier than the stock unit.

Did you get the housing as well?

nop... mine was ok ...

looking the real number, the 4.30 is a 4.37 right?, so should not be that much of a difference vs the RX8 4.44 ,,, I have one available from a friend that swap a 4.10 for his 20B-Rx8... so I might try it...

on the bushings,,, just found a shop that custom made them for $80 each so they might be the same brand ;)

Only the differentials are the same. The diff housings are not interchangeable. The bushings are also different, sorry. They mount completely different
