Dent in my rotor! Will this go again? Also, corner seal question...?
My engine did a tip, and while it didnt damage the housing or scratch the rotor, it seems to have put a big dent in it, as you can see here top right, halfway between the tip groove and the main dish...

I presume it was caused by det. Will this be ok to go again, or is it scrap? It seems to have been a brand new rotor too. Also, corner seals- It did have solids in there, but I have seen people say use the stock ones? Ive also seen people use the stock ones but without the rubber centres? Ive never liked the idea of the rubber centres, but there are people with more expertese with rotarys than me on here, so I best ask... :icon_tup: Will be going for ~500bhp with a HX55. |
The rubber plug in the corner seals helps w/ compression at low speeds, idle, start up, ect. With that being said I run solids in my car.
I have tried stock w/ plugs, w/o plugs, atkins new solid, hurley corner w/ 3 springs on them (pretty cool). Its all preference. I have not noticed a real difference in them. Stock blocks have made 600. Tuning is everything. You can get away w/ that rotor, but I would replace it. |
That rotor is runable, if you are shooting for high hp/boost I wouldnt run it. On a stock or lightly modded car it would run and never be noticed.

Not loads of boost, 22psi, pump gas.
Pre comp water jet came off so it detted it seems. My fault, poor install. Didnt hear a thing. Really cant decide if I should use it again, hmm. Very lucky it didnt damage anything else. |
as long as your apex seal slot has not been affected their are no issues at all with that rotor.

I have a rotor like that as well, came out of a S5 Turbo engine on the stock turbo, that only saw 10psi, doesn't matter on the amount of boost, it's just a detonation issue.

Bump, just to see others opintions on corner seals.

My last corner seals had no provision for them, were solid metal from ERC Japan, but all the other uprated I see for sale do have? |

Hey what series rotor was this? I bet it's s5 or later... s4 rotors are really tough

FD rotors are very soft. The more power you make, the more you will need to clearance the engine for flex. Your rotor shouldn't be used if your shooting for 600hp. You should also balance the motor. It will help alot for high hp and rpm. And stock corner seals will be your best bet. Solid seals will stick at higher power levels, lowering your compression.

We have fixed a few drag engines that have had dents at close to 800rwhp+ with no issues. As long as the dent does not affect the apex seal slot WHich it can. Sometimes the rotors has seen that much detonationa and heat the bottom of the apex seal closes
