custom intake manifold?

i was thinking that with a motor that likes high rpm power and with a front mount inter cooler on a t78 that my motor might want to ahve a shorter path from the turbo to the ports. so would a custom short runner intake be possible? has anyone ever made one? is it worth it on a street driven car that i plan to frequently run 24psi on? i realize that more botom end power may be lost as thats my previous expierience on v8's...

I've got a custom built upper on my T-II. It uses a 75mm Mustang throttlebody with one large plenum. Low end suffers over the stock setup and is a little less drivable on the street but there is more power in the midrange on up. It's only a toy car for me anyways so I don't mind.

is this hard to do? i guess i could go the ghetto home way and just buy a throttle body and some aluminum stock and make a rectangular box with the throttle body on the end and create a base for it? anyoen have a stencil of the ports of the lower intake so i can make the ports match?

You could go buy an intake gasket. That would be what you would want to port match to, right. Besides, you'll probably need one anyway.

hey someones thinking lol...so how much thereabouts do the gaskets cost?

rotarygod 04-16-03 03:43 PM

I made my flanges off of tracings of the gaskets. I ordered the aluminum tubing from Burns Stainless. The throttlebody came from Summit Racing and my friend welded it together. It's not cheap or easy if you've never done it before.

I dunno. I think around $20 or so... been a long time.
