Cost of twin to single turbo conversion on FD
I've read a lot about what setup people are using... but what would a price rangee be for a seq twin to single turbo conversion? Assuming I have no supporting parts & would get everything I needed (ie. upgrade other parts, rad, IC, etc to support single).

$4k - $7k

Thanks, I know it depends on what I want, but I never found a "the average setup is $4-7.
Is that DIY or shop? |
for a shop and all new parts you are looking at far mor than 10k

-clutch and flywheel + install = 1500 turbo kit 3000 power fc 700 fuel kit 700 dual oil cooler, rad, intercooler, installation and tuning etc etc. Things can add up very fast. What you can do is try to get a path planned out to where you want to go, don't buy something like 1300 cc secondary injectors when you are just gonna put 1600's in later. |
All those replacement gaskets add up real quick when I went single, for me anyways. My mechanic advised me to change alot of them, he had an account with Mazda and hooked me up a little bit on prices and I believe I still spent roughly between 500-700 just on gaskets. I think the exhaust mani alone was $240. Point is don't forget to add up all the little things that are needed, bolts, clamps, lines, and such.

Doing a single conversion right now:
GT40R turbo kit (slightly used) $3,000 IC with piping $1200 BOV w/flange $150 Greddy Elbow $115 Fuel System w/pump $800 Apexi Power FC w/Commander Used $650 Datalogit $350 Wideband w/Sensor $340 Enterprise Boost Controller $420 SPA gauges (2 used) $330 Midpipe Ceramic coated used $80 PFS Catback used $350 Heat shielding in engine bay $110 CRYO2 cooling system (IC, fuel, Air) $900 (You don't need this.) Laptop used $300 (Don't necessarily need this.) Optima Battery Relocation $120 Misc fasteners, brackets, etc $250 - You won't believe how this adds up. Total: $9465 Assuming you do all the labor - Except pipe fabrication. I'm sure I have forgotten something. Then, of course, you will want a lighter flywheel ($350) and will need a stronger clutch to handle the extra power ($500) and wider wheels to hook up ($1000 for ADRs up to $4000 for Fiske FM10s). With the wider wheels you will need to go to 17 or 18" wheels which means you will have to lower the car so it does not look like a 4 wheeler. Coilovers are $1300 ($900 used). I started on this over a year ago and was told to expect to spend 12-15K to do it right. There are lots of places to cut corners but unfortunately most of them will come back to bite you in the ass in the form of a blown engine. Just read the Forum for a while. |
Cool, thanks for the info guys.
Honestly, what I'm doing is trying to figure out where I want to go in 5? years with the car... single turbo or 20B. Both jobs are too big for me to do. I've read 20B is 20-30k, & a single sounds like it'd be half that. So for 15k (granted, is no chump-change) I could get a 20B. *& I don't need lectures on the expense of a 20B conversion... like I said... it's a long-term goal. |
Good timing on the thread. :) I've been kinda wondering the same thing about the complete price of going single.
heh, those BNR Stg3s aren't looking very spendy anymore... at all. |

make sure you contact Banzai Racing when you are ready to go single. they are located in pierceton Indiana so they should be pretty close to you.they did my conversion and i have never been happier with a shop! great quality of work and customer service. also i prob saved a good amount of money going there bc Chris put together some custom kits for me including my turbo kit and fuel system.

8-10k is a real good estimate for a single conversion, you can dig a bit deeper with the little details, i just added up about $14.5k in receipts including a ported motor.

I did some thrifty shopping on here and ebay except for the main things like turbo, fuel system and mine is well over 7,000 but thats w/ the clutch and flywheel.

Friend of mine just had his done.
Large street port and GT40R. About 15K out the door for everything (including new wiring harnesses). He already had the Power FC and large injectors. |
