Clutch Recommendation
What is a good clutch for 400+ rwhp set up? I was running the ACT 100% over stock, but it died today (it was time for it too). :( ACT has been a good brand, I'm just wanting to see what others have been using and what other's recommendations are.

Nice picture......try using it when it should be used rather than working on your post counts. I guess clutches have reached a point to where they will never be better than they were two, three or more months/years ago, right?

Anyone using the Exedy Triple?

Roy, Spec makes nice clutches as well. I've got about 10K trouble free 400+rwhp miles on mine and Bryan has about 40K on his. I never really took it to the track for some high rpm launches though but they have different levels of clutches. I believe they have one (forgot what its made of) that can hold 500lbs of tq with high rpms launches, no slipping, and still feel very good and engage good for street use.

Roy, I am in the middle of installing a SPEC stage III+. Replacing a ACT kit aswell. Only got 10-12k miles out of the ACT. I guess the over 100passes at the track will do that!! I wore the disk done flat way into the rivets! Here is the info that David (from SPEC) sent to me:
"I had a race ported single turbo 93 for several years. It made 487 to the wheels and was a really great car. I ran a st3 in it- mostly road race. My recommendation is the new St3+, pn SZ473F. This unit is superior to any Exedy street/strip unit. It includes our high clamp pressure plate and full faced carbon semimetallic sprung hub disc. This unit has a great pedal feel, offers lightning quick shifts and a nice engagement for low speed street driving in traffic" I will post a review once its broke in and I hit the drag strip! |
I've got the spec stage 3 on my fd and my 10sec blown-nitrous cobra. I won't look
about another clutch. Light effort , 6puck sprung holds 500+ ft/lbs torque on a fd. Got it from rx7store-good guys. |
any interest in mine? we have similar setups.

Greg PM me a price. |
Definitely go Exedy. Spec stuff is sketchy on quality. Exedy has the patent on the push-type clutch. Forged cover plate, just quality everywhere...I daily drove my Exedy Hype Single for about 4K miles with a single turbo at 400rwhp. Pulled the engine not too long ago and there's no real wear to speak of on the Exedy. The shifts are much, much quicker than the ACT Extreme with an OEM organic disk. The Exedy dual is supposed to be even better.

Also keep in mind that your level of torque will truly determine your need for a clutch, not your HP level.

yeah the tq kills the clutches not that a rotary makes alot persay but... i love the twin.
