Cast or Stainless Steel manifold?
 

I'm gonna go Single Turbo! But what is the Best Manifold! Cast or Stainless Steel?

I've heard the S/Steel cracks but the Cast doesn't flow has good?

Please help!

Defniately go Stailness Tubular style. The benifits are great. But as Ted said in the other section, You have to make sure that you get a good manifold builder.

If you go with a mild steel manifold you will get the flow of the stainless with out the cracks and broken welds, just won't look as pretty...

I thought Mild steel is no way near as strong as SS?

SS is more brittle.. and tends to crack.. But i would go with stainless myself

Yep exactly... I've gat a big heavy T04R and HKS racing wastgate hanging off mine now for a year with a shit load of beating on my car and I have Zero cracks in it... (just had it off the car recently)

...Until today when we pull the engine because someone simply HAD to rail on his car on the way to Nago and blow the engine up.:D

Thick wall 321 Stainless, or Inconel if you can find someone to weld it.

1.5mm 321 grade SS is sufficient if you want to go that route, but as you say, finding someone to weld it and the cost of it are the killers

How much would you say the material would set a guy back?

I know a guy that tig welds, I'd just have to supply the 321 filler rod.

As I understand it, you're supposed to get the Jet Hot coating to avoid cracking, correct?

What does ceramic coatings have to do with cracking?

we use stainless steel tubular manifolds on our single kits..greddy makes a nice one off there T-78 kit

If you get the ceramic coating on the inside, it should insulate the manifold from excess heat, I believe, thus preventing heat induced cracking.

Cracking is more of a function of the turbo buzzing on the delicate manifold.&nbsp If the (tube) turbo manifold cracks, it's a bad design or welded up wrong.

OK, i get it now.

Just a word on the hks manifold, I have a template I cut from the manifold that I tried on my motor(13bt) saturday night, the ports are not even close, they are about 1/4 of an inch off, you would not see this installing the actual manifold as you would never see the port alignment, but with the template it was visible...Max

NEVER NEVER use mild steel. I have pics of the carnage... I'm sure that SS is superior to cast, however, I use cast simply because a) it is cheaper and b) it is MUCH more durable... For the street does it really make a difference is what you should ask yourself IMO.

put me down for one:D

a guy over here quoted me aroud $1200NZ for the materials alone. that mightn't seem like much but in relavtive terms thats like $1000US just for the piping

Damn that seems expensive as hell.. I havent shoped around for this so i honestly wouldnt know but still....
