BW 8374 IWG not opening 100%
 

Just about to reinstall my turbo and decided to check the wastegate functionality and noticed it didn’t seem opened all the way. So I disconnected the rod and sure enough there’s a lot more room for opening.

I wonder if modifying the leverage on the wastegate arm and allowing it to open fully would help those suffering from boost creep or wanting to run lower boost levels. Any thoughts?

I believe its already at mass flow already and opening any more doesn't make that much of a difference.

Curiously enough one of our dealers had an interesting experience, they tuned one of our IWG kits with just the vacuum hose straight from actuator to compressor cover, and it held 11 psi. They hooked up the EFR solenoid and it was over boosting( even with controller off), they moved to a manual controller and bigger vacuum hose( same as before boost control solenoid) and held 11 psi again.

So its possible the EFR solenoid connectors are too small for some applications.

However porting the WG runners has been proved to drop pretty much all creep.

Thanks Elliot, I was hoping you would respond to this. I wasn’t about to modify it, but thought it was a worthwhile observation to share. And that’s interesting, I never considered the solenoid being the problem. I’ll keep that in mind should creep become an issue.

Actually one of the reasons why I'm still moving forward on retrofitting a Mahle/BMW wastegate actuator to a setup I've been tinkering with. No more preloading and hoping that the diaphragm has enough travel, and also TurboSmart is taking forever for their aftermarket setups that were announced pre-endtimes.

So the BMW actuator has more rod stroke? It’ll be interesting to see if there any noticeable difference with it opening more. Be sure to update us on your findings.
