Burns Stainless Mufflers

With all my research about 4inch exhaust systems, everyone seems to have the same issue, mufflers and or midpipes with true 4inch inner diameters. The great thing from what I can see about the Burns stuff is its crazy light, 17 inch muffler weighs in at 4.72lbs , thats crazy. They have what they call a stage 2 race muffler which has better sound absorbtion, they are a bit heavier a 17 incher is 6.29 lbs. The only drawback is they are quite pricey, my only other concern is that they might not actually be suitable for the street, sound wise, so anyone with a sound clip fire away.

thats where i buy all my stuff, havent used his light weight stuff yet, a bit pricey for me to afford, but everything else is awsome, great quality and a family style bussiness that means you get served right................

I have several 4" Ultra-Lite mufflers from Burns. I haven't made my exhaust yet but I can sure tell you they are TOP NOTCH. They are beautiful pieces of engineering (simple but..) and can't wait to finally get them on.

I have seen Burns craftsmanship before, and it is top notch. I guess my only concern is related to the sound, due to the fact that they are a race design in nature, I am a little worried they will be too loud, let me know what you come up with.

in running a single burns 12in ultra-light with a full 4in turbo back exhaust and it retardedly LOUD! my friends can here me from miles away no joke. if your going to run one dont, run two, but if your like me i love every second of it. then again i only drive mine on weekends.

open or plumbed waste gate?

Burns mufflers are designed for racecars to pass tech that require one. Running a Burns Muffler on the street is just as loud as running without a muffler.

The Burns mufflers (or Coast Fabrication, pretty much same thing) are very nice, and offer the ability to repack when they wear out. They don't defy physics for sound deadening, but do a decent job. I had a 20" long 4.5"OD (in midpipe location) one and a 17" long 6.25" on my single turbo car and it wasn't too loud by racecar standards (about 93db at 50'). You should note that when they say 17" long, that really includes the taper down and the end pieces of pipe. The actual "muffler" section is probably closer to 12" long, which is pretty small for a street car. If you want one for street use, I'd suggest going as long and as big as you can, which will probably mean a custom length.

Does anyone have any experience with their stage 2 ultralight line, it is supposed to be quieter.

1ROTOR2NV 06-23-09 11:39 PM

anybody???

AMRX7 06-24-09 03:00 PM

I know some folks who have them. They are definitely quieter, thought "quiet enough" is an it depends kind of question.

Burns is topnotch but way over priced, look into Borla silencers. They make a straight through 4 inch steel wool packed and in my experience it will hold up and not burn out or blow up (split open at the seems) from engine backfire. Most important a Borla will quite the car.

i run 2 4" magnaflow 20" case mufflers... it is still a bit loud. I built myself an additional exhaust path that runs through a 2" muffler when in vacuum and opens to the full 4" when i decided to open it (planning on running a boost switch). I might add another one of my valves with a perforated plate upstream of my second exhaust path to quiet things down further. I would get pulled over in about 2 seconds if i drove around the places i normally go with my 4" exhaust.

I do run a half bridge, but i figured i would warn you that 4" exhaust is a bit loud. It kinda depends on the neighborhood in which you normally drive if you would consider a 4" exhaust streetable.

I should be getting my car back today or tomorrow. I got a 4inch exhust made with the Borla XR1 as the mid muffler and a magnaflow race series SS muffler at the end. I will have to let you guys know how that sounds. Im hoping for a not so obnoxious tone!!!
