building own T04S kit.

Im building my own T04S kit. Planning on getting the turbo from www.cheapturbo.com but what wastegate would you guys recommend and where can I get the best price for it. The same goes for the exhaust manifold. I am going to do all the oil feed lines and pipes for intercooler and exhaust on my own.

Tial makes a good wastegate, you can get the 46mm for like 500. That would be my recommendation. As for prices, i'd search the usual suspects. i know SR carries them for 500 but SR isn't my favorite vender, maybe somone else knows where to find 'em. http://www.shaneracing.com/Tial_Wastegates.html
EDIT:
turbo specialties has the 46mm for 470

Go with the XS Cast manifold and either the HKS or HKS Racing Racing Wastegate.

0110-M-P 10-19-03 09:26 PM

so will either w/g's bolt up to the xs manifold

HKS racing would be my second choice after the TiAL. I'd go with the HKS SS manifold over the cast one though. Probably good to stick with the same company for manifold and wastegate for fitment issues. SS manifold is like 800 compared to 600 for cast, so if price is a concern, you may want to stick with the cast one.

Rx7trix is a great vendor, but has had confrontation with rx7store and Jason, the owner of this site, so my post may be censored.

In any case, HKS race gate is very popular and you cna't go wrong with it and they make a great matching manifold too.

Get someone to build You a custom mani. Cheaper and most of the time will fit better. You can use what ever WG You wish that way.

pp13bnos 10-20-03 08:59 AM

If you get a XS cast manifold then you'll need to run a HKS racing or standard wastegate. Thats what fits anyways. The only problem is that it seems that the 10psi spring/WG combo, for the racing version is on back order. I had to order the wastegate with a 14.7psi spring, then order a 10psi spring.

To be honest, If I had to do it all over again, I would have bought a kit. Its a pain getting the downpipe to line up with the exhuast just right. Not to mention making all the custom ic piping, making shure your BOV has enough room, etc. I'm into my single setup about $2,500, and I could have bought a kit from BI-state customs for $2600. Way to much time spent on fabing stuff for the price difference. Just something to think about- CJ

pp13bnos is right. im currently stuck on my intercooler install. making endtanks and piping is proving to kick my wallets ass more than i thought it would. for less headache you can get something and know it works.

i have the xs to4e kit. its a great turbocharger, and im glad i got a kit. . . cause i really would not look forward to making all that poo. if youre looking for something that you can drive everyday, then you should get a cast manifold. tubular manifolds tend to crack. depends on what youre looking for. . . i like the reliability of my cast manifold.

rotaryextreme makes a nice to4s kit now also. i would probably look into getting a complete kit instead of making one. i helped me friend make his own t60-1 turbo kit over the summer an even though it wasnt hard its just a pita to make sure everything fits. then you add the next piece and you realize damn i was off a 1/4 inch. you save a little bit of money doing it yourself but only if you get the hook up on parts. i think we figured he was within like $300-500 of just buying a premade kit.

jdhuegel1 10-20-03 02:05 PM

Yeah... Making my kit is a pain in the ass. Fun, but still a pain.

Fox4Life 10-20-03 03:10 PM

where did you guys get your Gaskets for turbo/manifold and DP/turbo. Also, what about the oil lines?

0110-M-P 10-20-03 05:32 PM

great question.....i was gonna ask once I got all the parts, but what better time than now

Crusader_9x 10-20-03 05:44 PM

double.

Crusader_9x 10-20-03 05:45 PM

i just got done building my own t04s kit. i used the hks cast mani with standard wastegate. i dont got it ttuned yet so i cant get on it, but it does seem to be plenty repsonsive. i got the mani wastegate combo for under $600 shipped and this is what i recomend. all the gaskets came with the turbo that i got from www.cheapturbo.com . i was hapy with my service from here altough it did take longer than expected(clamed he broke his arm over holiday weekend so couldnt weld my turbo). as far as oil lines go i used all braided ss stuff for my lines. if u search then u can get all the neccesary part numbers from this forum, i did.

Matlock 10-20-03 05:46 PM

Crusader 9x, how'd the fuel system setup go? Your setup turbo wise is identical to mine. It's fun!

Crusader_9x 10-21-03 02:51 PM

i got all -6 socketless stuff froma place here local and ran a parrallel setup on s4 rails using the part numbers from reteds website. i am using an aeromotive fpr that accepts 2 -6 linesw in and one out. i also got a vdo guage on it. besides that i am using stock to and return lines.

ToyotaryatGR 10-22-03 04:34 PM

you should buy a precision turbo from GR wastegate depends on hp and boost level. precision turbos come polished already. pm me if u want a good deal on these parts I'll then give u my number

rzograbian 10-23-03 10:54 PM

im going to buy the same turbo form them. i called them today and they told me someone else called for that. it must of been you. i will call tommorrow and see if we can get it cheaper. the only thing to watch out for is the intercooler. if you are getting a fmic, get the one specific to the car because it is a pain to make pipes that loop to the engine bay.

when i am dont with my setup, i will post pics and part numbers of everything i used. i havent found a website that tells you how to setup a single so i will do it.

thanks and tell me how it goes.
