bridge port??
 

one qucik question i have made up my mind o bridgeport. but the tuner is telling me to only streetport the center plate and bridge the 2 outers? any one heard of this, any benifits? this will be a everyday driver but i am not ot worried about streetablity. why don't i just bridge all 3 plates? well hope someone can shed some light on the subject for me

Bridgeport will definitely affect drivability of the car. Most people only bridgeport for drag. Also i heard the bridge tend to break off and cause big problem.

I want a mild streetport though!..

Hey Soul!
The secondary bridge port is the better way to go for a street/race car. Due to design of the middle housing on the FD and FC motors
the little gained would be offset by what you lost. Also Apex seal design(2 and 3 peice) come into play if you want the motor to last for a while.
With your setup just stay with the secondary Bridge Ports.

so would there be any type o low end gains -losses? also if i only did the 2 outer plates it would not have that bp idles huh? what would you say the powerband would consst of with the 2 ports? i know bp is over 3k but with the center sideported would it be lower? thanks for the help cris

It's still gonna have the traditional BP idle!:)
You'll loose some low and part throttle power but once it get into boost you're in for a surprise.:)
Normally power and torque goes up in the 5500 to 8500 rpm band.

what do you think about opening up the bridgeport right to the edge of the water seal and machining the rotor housing to match the bridge port?

If the person doing the porting is very skillfull you can take it very close to the water seal as long as enough material is left to support the water seal. For any type of BP to work well you must machine the area on the rotor housing next to where the port is so that it can flow to it's maximum capacity.

cris did you get some fuelrails made for the 1600's yet? if so how much for fuel rail and 2 1600's?

P.S. what is a safe amount of material to be left to suport the water seal???

Hey Cris I'm looking for a secondary fuel rail for our fds as well.
I just recieved my 1200cc from RC, and tapped my secondary fuel rail to accept a 6-an fitting. But looking for something bigger with more room to play :) If anyone wants my injectors and rail let me know.

I ran a "half-bridge" two years ago in my TurboII. The bridge porting was added to my street port on the secondary runners only. It worked great and it made tons of power past 5krpm. Low end was still good....the BP idle(~1200rpm) and the fact that I was running a stock ECU with F-con is what brought me back to a street port. The motor made power past 8krpm and yet I was limited to 8krpm due to ECU.
I ran a best of 11.2 @122mph @ 18psi with that set with 62-1 T04B turbo.
Like Crispeed mentioned...any bridge port will need material removed from the rotor housings...right to the edge of the coolant seal.
I ran my motor for 8+ months 'til I went back to street port and gave my Bridged plates/housings to my friend where he managed to get 504RWH @27psi with a T64. Again. he was only spinning the motor to 8krpmsince it was not set up to higher. The torque curve hit 420 and it stayed flat out...

When the BP turbo motor is done right for a street/strip setup the power normally peaks at around 7500 to 8000 rpm and stays flat all the way to about 8800 rpm.
My first BP turbo motor was done on an 87TII motor that was street ported originally. The motor made on average about 460RWHP/330RWTQ at 20psi with a T-70 turbo on 93 octane. With the bridge port done on the same motor to the secondaries only, it made 510RWHP/380RWTQ at 20 psi also on 93 octane. The power peaked at 7800rpm and the torque was flat from about 5500rpm to about 7000rpm with the peak being at 5500rpm.The nice thing about the new power and torque was that the average 50 RWHP/50RWTQ increase was made right through out the power band from about 5500 rpm to redline. The very same motor went on to make 551RWHP /422RWTQ at 24 psi on 116 octane fuel.
I have to agree with John in saying the only way to extract the benefits from the BP motor would be with precise tuning which can only happen with some type of stand alone fuel system. You'll be surpise to see how much extra fuel is needed in the power band to keep that sucker happy!:)

well the final descion is made went and paid for my new motor today. going with street ported center plate and bridgeported end plates-low comp rotors- 3 pc seals shootpeened- good for 500 rwhp at 1.6 bar boost
