Borg Warner S362SXE 76 or 80mm turbine
Hi,
I'll looking at using a S362SXE on my 13B with a small/medium street port. I noticed that you can get it with either a 76mm or 80mm turbine wheel. I'm having a hard time deducing which would be a better fit for my setup. Would love to get some input. I'm setting the car up for mostly street driving w/ some track time thrown in. Would like to have a quick-ish spool and good mid-range. Not going for huge hp. For now I'll be running pump gas with WI, but possibly E85 and high boost down the line. For now probably around 15lbs range. Engine has a small/medium street port as I mentioned. Currently running a high flow cat on the car. Also trying to figure out how to balance turbine size against A/R on the hot side. Looks like there are .91 and 1.0 twin scroll housing options. Would going with the 80mm and .91 A/R produce reasonable spool up. How would that compare to the 76mm wheel and 1.0 A/R? Appreciate any input. |

The answer requires more input like what manifold, port, boost pressure, exhaust size etc.
Generally speaking the 76mm turbine wheel is plenty for the 62mm compressor to 22 psi.. |
I'm actually running pretty much the same setup as Nateness. There's a picture of the manifold in his thread above. 3" downpipe into Bones cat. Lowish boost for now, about 1 bar. Based on what you guys are saying it sounds like Nateness has about the ideal setup for good response. Is there anyway to estimate how much lag the 80mm turbine would add? Basically my shop had the 80mm currently and I'm debating swapping it for the 76mm. Thanks.

I have turblowns dual waste gate manifold set, but I have s362sxe with 76 at 13 psi and it's awesome.

76mm .91 A/R gets my vote.

To be clear most people measure turbine O.D. so when you say 68mm, that is what everyone is referring to as the 76mm.

80mm with .91 ar should have similar spool up to a 76mm with 1.0 ar , no? In what case would you go with one vs the other?

Wheel size has a larger impact on spool up than A/R turbine size.
a 76mm turbine wheel is pretty good size for a rotary and a .91 A/R isn't small, this should be good for a good amount of WHP. |
So is the general consensus that the 76mm turbine wheel is preferable over the 80mm?

For better spool and pressure under 20psi , yes.

Better Response = 76mm
Better Overall Power Output (Due to Lower EMAP and Higher RPM Efficiency) = 80mm |
Thanks guys, and how would a 76mm wheel in a 1.0 housing compare to an 80mm wheel in a 0.91 housing?
