blown engine? or possibly a blown oil pan seal?

i've got a fc s4. mods include gt40 turbo, wastegate, blowoff valve...yada yada.

it's been professionally tuned @13 lbs of boost. original engine with 83k miles on it...

thing to know: my tach hasn't been working.

so, today i boost up through 2nd gear, i think i might have taken it a bit over redline actually. then i hit 3rd and boosted up to probably about 6k rpm and then i lost all power.

i coasted down a bit and then tried to bump start it a couple times, while i was still going about 40 mph. no sign of life at all...

so i pull over and look under the hood and nothing really seems out of the ordinary, no weird smells or any signs of steam or smoke. no smoke ever came out of the exhaust when the incident happened....as far as i could tell.

then i looked under the car and notice oil is dripping out of the back of the oil pan around the seal.

this is probably just wishful thinking but is it possible that i just blew my oil pan seal and therefore lost compression?

No. Check to see how much oil ( if any ) is in the motor!

Im sorry but the oilpan has nothing to do with your combustion chambers, do a compression check before doing anything else.

$5 says it's the rear dowel land and you have no oil left.

ok, i just checked my oil and not only does it have oil it appears to be over full by maybe a quart.

i checked the oil level about a month ago and it was maybe just a tiny bit over the full line.

i think what must have happened was two times in the last month i stalled the car right after starting it. it's been extremely cold here in indiana....both of times i stalled it i was on ice and the tires started spinning, then i hit a dry patch of asphalt and the engine stalled.

i restarted the engine but it was only running on one rotor or something...both times. it spit & sputtered but i managed to nurse it along for a mile or more untill it cleared out and started running normal.

i'm guessing fuel must have been washing down into the oil pan.

btw, the oil definately has a strong smell of gas.

Hmmmm gaining oil, oil smells like gas, drvinging it...tick tick tick :goodrebuild:

you just have to love rotarys,, i do! and i got a pile of them out back in scrape metal.

My turbo vert has idle problems. It sounds like it`s missing something. When driving it runs great from 3000-6000 but then has a dull thud that is almost like a knock. I`ve parked it and have another turbo block to send off to be rebuilt later next month. Should it stay parked??

definitely sounds like a wiring issue, a wire is probably rubbing through on the engine and grounding out under certain circumstances. i would pull the wiring harness out and re-wrap it and put new looming on it and re-solder the injector clips and/or replace them(if it was running on one rotor then you probably are having an issue with one of your primary injector wires).

the oil pan leak sounds unrelated but it does need to be resealed. and be sure to change your oil regularly, if you aren't then it is becoming fuel dilluted which happens quite often in modified applications in rich tuning conditions.
