Block off plate question
I have the combo block off plate kit from K2RD and have a couple of questions.
1. Do you use the factory gaskets with the bop's? 2. The kit comes with allen bolts to use instead of the studs. What's the best way to remove the studs? Thanks all! |
1. I would be very surprised / impressed if you gaskets are still usable after removing the original parts. My kit from the RX-7 Store came with a thin gasket material, but I used black silicone instead. I don't know how well this will stand up though.
2. I was able to remove all of the studs by turning them with pliers. Didn't try the EGR, because I was too lazy to take off the y-pipe to get at it. If you are going single at the same time, it won't affect you.:) |
Thanks for the reply. The gaskets I have looked at so far seem ok. They have 39,000 miles on them. Any others care to share their comments?

1. You can use silicon RTV and/or gasket. Just make sure you have some sort of material between the metal services that can help create a seal as the metal surfaces may be imperfect.
2. Use vice-grips to break the studs loose and pull them out. J |

Use vice-grips to break the studs loose and pull them out. J I like to put duct tape on the jaws of the vice-grips so that the stud doesn't get damaged. |
put two nuts on the stud and tighten the top one down, then remove the bottom one, and the stud should turn. Leave the top one on obviously

Thats the easies way to take out the studs, i would use the permatex grey stuff, works the best out of all the other stuff they sell.
