Best 450 hp setup

hey guys,
waht do you guys think is the perfect 450 rwhp setup.
quick spooling but still powerfull up top

RotaryEvolution 11-30-10 12:59 PM

GT35R with mild streetport.

catch-22 11-30-10 02:16 PM

streetport and my Holset WH1E got me there pretty easy. 20 pounds by 3800 isnt to bad either.

ALPSTA 11-30-10 02:34 PM

I think A-Spec GT3574R or 500R will be the quickest spooling 450+ whp turbos (depending on the supporting mods).

T4 1.06

A dual wastegate, or divorced single waste-gate manifold with a 3.5" downpipe is extremely fast, easy 450rwhp...

We have kits in stock too, should have the GTX35Rs any day now..

Zero R 11-30-10 04:14 PM

Very responsive 500+whp would make more sense.

Agreed, I'm a little afraid that he had that at all, lol.

Does the PT6265 not fit into the "450whp" range? I figured that would have been mentioned... ?

GoodfellaFD3S 11-30-10 10:25 PM

To answer the OP's question, consider the A-Spec 500R setup, contact Zero R for more details :icon_tup:

Project D1 12-01-10 02:34 AM

GT35R, streetport, standard bolt-ons, good tune, 20 psi and you're there. . .

The dual wastegate manifold looks very nice.

He would not need a dual gate manifold but it would be nice. I would say a 35r or once again a 300 series Borg Warner.

Here's a s366ett I finished last week. It will get you around 550whp with it's .91 a/r divided turbine housing with a street port. It has a bell-mouth 4" to 3" downpipe sounds BEAUTIFUL with the Racing Beat catback...

Thanks Tom! If you only saw what was going on these days! We'll have to meet up soon...

TRWeiss1 12-01-10 01:05 PM

Hahahaha, indeed! :D Knowing you I'm sure you're working on something impressive. :P

RotaryEvolution 12-01-10 01:08 PM

yea, dual wastegate would be more for boost control if you were trying to keep the boost very reasonable but why would someone want to limit the turbo to around 10psi just for consistency? it would defeat the purpose of having a larger turbo and power goals for it. that is also why they invented VEBC(variable electronic boost controllers with RPM adjustable duty cycles). a waste of money is just that, a waste of money.

1.06 turbine is pretty much an ideal middle of the road size for the 35R, i have one sitting here ready to go after i finish pinning this motor. power goals for this is going to be ~550whp while having a decent spool RPM for the FBP. the MP T70 on it before made 450whp at 17psi but it was pretty laggy with the non BB CHRA and full bridge, it was only limited there due to the 2 bar MAP, otherwise it would have made well over 500 since it was nowehere near out of breath and was still climbing past 9k and picking up plenty of power per psi.

TheAsset 12-01-10 11:15 PM

PT6265 would do it easily...I'm not sure why it hasn't been brought up. It's perfect.

What's the track record of this turbo? How many people have done it, and for how long?

BOOSTALMIGHTY7 12-02-10 12:14 AM

^ that's what i want to know

What do you consider 'track record'...do you want dyno sheets? longevity under abuse? cost efficiency? Opinions based on experience? Mileage?

I would like to say that the number have people who have 'done it' should be no indicator of a turbos 'track record'...it's a moot point in the rotary world when you look at the whole picture. I would say the same goes for 'how long?' as well.

95% of the time a turbos 'track record' is tarnished by the ignorance of it's owner/tuner/shop, which is more prevalent when those same people want to make 450hp with the dorito...it almost makes it impossible to distinguish the good from the bad.

It should be common knowledge at this point to know that the "best 450hp setup" is going to be the cars(and owner) whose setup can support it.

RotaryEvolution 12-02-10 11:40 AM

i would also compare price to value differences, the GT35R based turbos can now be found for as low as $1050 or less, if you are a wholesaler and have even better hookup prices. how much do the BB 6265 precision turbos run? they look to be about $1500ish and i would also have to guess that they do spool a little bit slower, going larger on the turbo just hurts reaction time of the turbo, with a goal of 450whp why go with a turbo capable of 700-750? it will do it at a lower boost level at the cost of RPMs to spool.

Arthur3328 12-02-10 11:53 AM

ok so lets go from here, what are the biggest differences between the
Aspec 35r kit
&
Aspec 500r kit

Zero R 12-02-10 02:13 PM

Response, the original 500R kits were based off of 35R centre sections, and used smaller turbine wheels. Now they use TO4 centre sections and larger turbine wheels. A better overall solution that falls between the two is either a 3574R or a 62/65 BB. Rich (goodfella's) has one of the original 35R based turbo's they have a edge response wise to the newer 500R's. The newer 500R's will hit 500hp easier than Riches turbo though (all things being equal). In my humble opinion your best choice for 450whp at a reasonable boost level with response is 61-62mm compressor mated to a 74-77mm turbine (68mm discharge) in a .84 housing. Give up a couple hundred RPM and you could go with a 1.0 A/r. Compare that with a 68mm turbine (62mm discharge) in a 1.06 and you will see little difference if any in overall response but boost between shifts will be better. The 1.06 on a 35R turbine tends to drop off boost some. We ran side by side comparisons with 1.0 35R housings we made here (what rich is running) and it was noticeably laggier between shifts.

This is exactly what I'm running from A-Spec. It offers a good, usable powerband, and I made 516RWHP @ 23 psi with a moderate streetport. :icon_tup:
