Aspec 500r vs borg 8374

Hey. I’ve been only occasionally involved off and on, for 5ish years, so I’ve fallen behind on what’s the latest and greatest.

My car currently has an aspec 500r sp

what are the major differences in it vs the 8374?

It dynoed at 467 at 21psi with a HIGHLY questionable tuner. (So questionable, I’ve only ran it at 16-17 psi since his tune)

id like to see 500+ with a reputable tuner in charge.

should I worry about swapping turbos to get there or just go with the 500r?

opinions?

I don't have personal experience with either, but have been doing quite a bit of research because I want to convert to a single turbo for the simplicity.

I would say with a better tune, your car could hit 500whp as-is if you have the fuel system for it. I've seen people make low to mid 400s with your turbo on like ~15-16 psi.

I'm personally leaning toward an EFR turbo because of the response they provide. But since you already have a pretty capable turbo, it might not be worth the money to you. You may have to change downpipe and manifold as well.

If you are happy with how your turbo behaves, id say keep it and get retuned. If you want it to be more responsive, and are okay spending a few thousand dollars to get there, go EFR.

I agree with the above. If I were you I'd start with a retune and see if that gives you the grins back.

I went from an A-Spec 6265 kit to a BW and I needed a new manifold to fit the 74 hotside. So if you do swap turbos than I'd factor in a new DP and mani as well.

That said, the technological advances in the new EFR turbos are pretty friggin awesome!!

I guess it boils down to how much money you're trying to spend at this point :)

I would get a new tuner, tune the current turbo and see if you are happy with it. I cannot remember what the 500R was, chances are its bigger than a GT35R, maybe a GT35R with a 67mm compressor? Should hit 500rwhp at 20+ psi I would think. EFR is probably has 600+ rpms faster response in the same frame, but also make another 75+ rwhp( assuming you have a GT35R turbine wheel, which will be the limiting factor for PEAK power).
