Apexi IHI Rx6 Turbo
Is there anyone out there that currently has an Apexi turbo or has good info. about it. How are the Stainless Ball Bearings vs. ceramic (life, etc) Horsepower, has anyone blown there engine using this turbo?
THANKS!! |
My friend down in GA blew his engine during a track event using the new Apexi kit. Only because his wastegate hose melted through....boost spiked to about 28 psi. As far as the other longevity issues..i have no clue. BUT i am ordering my RX6 turbo kit in the next few weeks.

how is the RX6 TURBO compare to T-78 TURBO?
|
The RX6 is much smaller than the T-78. The "regular" RX6 will support "maybe" 400rwhp on an internally stock engine. There are, however, custom IHI RX6 turbos avalible, including the "B" model which supports a bit more hp. Spool up is about the same as the stock twins too...
The design itself is about as bullet proof as a turbo can get. Apexi doesn't even offer a BOV with the kit because they say it doesn't need one. Don't confuse it with the failure-prone Turbonetics stuff. If you visit the japan site, they have pics of the various configurations. I've been told that it'll take 6-8months to get a custom IHI however. If you have a "Japan" connection, perhaps faster. I believe their site is www.apexi.co.jp I plan on upgrading to this turbo eventually after I max out the twins :-) ------------------ Michel 95 RX7 PEP, CWC Intercooler, N-Tech Intake, CWC Intake on the way, N-tech BMK in rear, HKS downpipe, Pettit Resonated Midpipe, SR Motorsports tuned Power FC, SR Motorsports 1300cc/min secondaries, GReddy Power Extreme, AST eliminated, Zip tie mod, Royal Purple Racing 41, lots o' gauges, Cusco strut tower bar, HKS Twin Power, Magnecore wires, stock clutch, brakes and suspension, Advan VS-5 rims, Kumho 712's, 2708lbs. without driver |
I intend of getting this Apex RX6 IHI Turbo, do you know if its suitable for a custom turbo extended port engine for street and drag racing ! This engine is ported as above and has 8 extra dowels and 2 Bosch 1700cc secondry injectors.
|
What is a custom extended turbo port. I've heard of peripheral ports, bridge ports, street ports...how does an extended turbo port come into play?
|
I'm not sure what it is but i'm getting this engine from Australia and was quoted that it runs mid nines on a 2000lbs car and high ten's on a 2800lbs car !

Who is supplying you the engine?
How much can I ask.... ------------------ http://www.rotorgasm.com/sigs/ricecard.jpg |

Admittedly, now that my RX-7 has been relegated to primarily drag racing, I wish I had bought the T78. Cheuk |
I bought the remanufactured motor from a local Mazda dealership for $1936 plus core. I am sending the motor to KD Rotary this week to get it ported, with some reliability mod's. Has anyone had a chance or heard any stories about the upgraded 2mm apex seals KD offers. I plan on running no more than 15 psi on a street driven car but reliability is important.
Thanks! |
the rx6 is a perfect street setup, maybe not 4 the most power, but the waste gate is open at 3000rpm@14psi and itll break the tires loose at 60 in third, whitch is good enough for me

Hey Kevin, how much is KD charging you to have your new motor ported?
------------------ 93 Silver Touring Bonez SS DP Bonez SS MP Pettit ECU K&N Intake Manual bleed valves Silicone vacuum hoses Autometer Boost gauge Autometer Air/fuel gauge and 13psi of PURE FUN! |
KD is charging me
$600 for street porting $400 for 2mm hurley seals $100 better coolant seals $15 ecentric shaft modification $200 to reassemble Plus any applicable shipping charges. Dave@KDR has been what everyone else says - Great! |

does anyone kno the exact specs on the rx6 turbo and is it a t3t4 turbo or a straight t4?
|
Does anybody know the true a/r ratio? Is it 1.0 or 1.5 and do you know what the compressor housing is? And Finally any graphs for power and torque on this turbo. I went to apexi's web site and they dont have any of the questions im asking. And does anybody know if i bought the RX6 kit for the third gen rx7 if i could bolt on the apexi AX75 Turbo. Thanks.

1.5-1.75 A/R turbine housing on a T78? I've never seen anything above 1.36, even on big 20B setups. And aren't GReddy turbine housings measured in CM? Am I missing something? |
Missing something? Well, that post is from early 2001, and he never stated 500 on pump gas ;)
|
So im guessing nobody knows the specs on the RX6 IHI Turbo?

I assumed since he said the RX6 can't hit 380 "safely" and that the T78 can hit 500 "safely" he meant pump gas. Just using context clues. Funny that the same turbos are still being used these days (some at least). |
Yeah....

From Apexi info you have the option from AX53B60 to AX53B70 with 57 trim inducer sizes from 46 to 53 exducer sizes from 60 to 70 with T25 flange or t3 in some cases. to RX6B Series with comp Trim from 48 to 57 inducer sizes from 54 to 61 exducer sizes from 78 to 82 exhaust A/R from 13mm to 27mm up to AX75F82 or F92 with comp Trim from 50 to 61 inducer sizes from 61 to 64 exducer sizes from 82 (AX7582F) to 92 (for the 92F) exhaust A/R 25mm only. So you can see, the RX6 turbo is something like the T04S turbo in size. You will see something like 400hp from this turbo but if your engine is in good condition, probably more. this is what we got from customers setup: http://www.rotary-imports.de/space/fd_rx6.jpg REgards Iwan |

Thanks for the info.

I know this is probably off topic but anyways i drive a 95 talon right now thinking of the driveability and i havnt even put 1000 miles on it and i broke the underdrive pulley bolt. So now i have to buy a new underdrive pulley and bolt for it. I was planning on buying this guys 3rd gen in town but how reliable is it going to be? The two FC's i had were very reliable but they also had no power. My friends think i should get an evo cause of the reliability and its .020 seconds faster. So the question is, would a basic bolt on FD with intensions of a RX6 turbo and mildly street ported be just as reliable as a bolt on evo 8? I would appreciate the comments and the help.
